Full Job Description

Great Ormond Street Hospital is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare and together with our research partner, the UCL Institute of Child Health, we form the UK's only academic biomedical research centre specialising in paediatrics.We are looking for a highly motivated clinical paediatric pharmacist to provide specialist pharmaceutical services to the cardiac ward, HDU & highly specialised services. This post is required to meet the needs of our expanding clinical work within cardiac services & cardiothoracic surgery. The successful candidate will work on cardiac ward, HDU & CICU with the highly specialised services. They will be working closely with the medicines management technician, patients and families; as well as nursing and medical teams. Key responsibilities will involve screening medications for discharge, medication counselling, clinical audit, supporting implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols; and pharmacy induction for new medical and nursing,

  • To deliver a clinical pharmaceutical service to the cardiac ward and day ward, promoting safe and cost effective use of medicines. This includes attending ward rounds, working with the cardiac pharmacy technician to ensure timely dispensing and delivery of TTAs, counselling parents/carers, and training of medical and nursing staff
  • To deliver a clinical pharmaceutical service to the cardiothoracic transplant ward rounds on the cardiac intensive care unit when required with support from Principal Pharmacist
  • To support the senior specialist pharmacist for cardiac services and the pulmonary hypertension service when needed
  • To support the Principal Pharmacist in developing and reviewing prescribing guidelines specific to cardiology, taking into account all relevant local and national policies and procedures.
  • To participate in the teaching/training of pre-registration and rotational pharmacists, nursing and medical staff as appropriate
  • To undertake and participate in clinical audit in the pharmacy department and within the speciality unit
  • To act as educational facilitator for junior pharmacists
