Full Job Description

Key Responsibilities Work within a pre-determined rota providing day to day pharmaceutical services to the hospital and other health care premises. To check the receipt of goods against orders and delivery notes in accordance with SOPs, health and safety and other legislative requirements. To generate ward orders using pharmacy software JAC and process orders including picking goods, checking, and assembling for delivery. To participate in the moving and handling of large quantities of bulk fluids on a daily basis in the pharmacy stores and other departments, using moving and handling aids where necessary, ensuring these tasks are undertaken in compliance with statutory safety requirements and handling policy in order to minimise risk of injury to self or others. Removal of any unrequired medicines from ward/clinical areas, returning to stock when appropriate. Replenish patient packs, reconciling with patient prescriptions and filing of paperwork following National and trust regulations.
To issue medicines to Wards and departments in response to authorised urgent requisitions. Prepare transit boxes for collection by drivers. Liaise with transport drivers for receipt of orders to PGI, checking and signing for goods received and distributing as required. Restocking clinic items for named patient medicines/ high-cost products, liaising with nursing staff to ensure that stock levels and prescriptions are accurate, and discrepancies are reported. Check any high alert medicines issued by other pharmacy assistants ensuring correct quantities and assembly. Generate orders on JAC of automated stock request produced by Omnicell on A&E (Secure computerized storage and dispensing system) and replenish stock including high alert medicines, checking stock levels as necessary. To participate in medicine supply audits under the direction of the dispensary/ stores manager or pharmacy technician. To be responsible for putting away stock medicines in all ward areas including the pharmacy
automated dispensing and storage systemsensuring correct stock rotation and all stock medicines are in date. To assist in all aspects of medicines storage in automated dispensing and storage systems within the Pharmacy Department, including maintenance, front loading the robot and loading the hopper in accordance with SOPs. Daily expiry date checks of medicines in pharmacy dispensary and removal of expired stock. Assess medicines returned from clinical areas and return stock items that are fit for re-use or dispose of items unfit for use in accordance with COSHH regulations and trust procedures. Identify and report stock shortages or discrepancies to procurement colleagues for ordering to ensure that medicines are available when needed. Liaise with procurement team to source extra stock medicines or an alternative product when required and ordering of specialist medicines that are ordered specifically for supply and demand in specialist areas. Monitor and identify possible misuse
of high alert medicines, reporting any high usage to specialist pharmacy technician or pharmacist. Denaturing high alert medicines and disposal following COSHH regulations. Undertake the daily rolling stock take and check expiries and advise the purchasing manager of anything due to expire. Distinguish and separate A&E prescriptions between exempt and paying patients. To file prescriptions, pharmacy orders and other documents as required. To follow procedures and deliver in service training and mentoring as required to all pharmacy staff. To maintain safe systems of work at all times, including the knowledge of and abiding by the fire procedures, departmental and trust policies. To be competent in the operation of the pharmacy computer systems in carrying out all the above duties Accurately record all issues and receipts through the pharmacy computer system to ensure that all transactions are recorded, and the stock management system works efficiently. Deal with
telephone enquiries and urgent orders or pass on to another member of staff where appropriate. Responsible for signing in and out of keys for ward storage cupboards or obtaining them from nursing staff. Undertake the assembly of resus boxes following SOPs. To undertake any other duties that may be required within the nature and grade of the post. To work at different sites as requested.
