Full Job Description

This role is designed to support provision of effective and efficient pharmaceutical services to the patients of Solent NHS Trust and other Trusts it supplies.

You will be based in St Mary's Portsmouth, working within a small friendly team of Technicians and Pharmacists who provide medicines management support to Solent NHS trust units.

The role involves labelling and dispensing of medication as required, including controlled drugs, monitored dose systems and clinical trials to meet customer needs and will include final checking of prescriptions for accuracy prior to release.

You will need to manage your time and workload effectively as well as working unsupervised and also to participate in the ACPT rotas within the trust's pharmacies.,

  • Labelling and dispensing of medication as required, including controlled drugs, monitored dose systems and clinical trials in a timely, legally and ethically acceptable manner.


  • Final checking of prescriptions for accuracy prior to release.


  • Participating, when trained, in the provision of ward-based Medicines Management services to on and off site wards on a rotation


  • Participation in the rotation for the provision of the clozapine service.


  • Collection of NHS prescription charges where necessary and use of the till including cashing up procedures.


  • Liaise with ward staff, clinics and other healthcare professionals as necessary and ensure any problems are referred to the most appropriate member of staff where necessary


  • Providing information on the correct use of medicines, counselling patients.


  • Providing compliance aids/ cards to minimise barriers to concordance.


  • Ensure that each patient has sufficient understanding of how to manage their treatment, including to-follow arrangements where necessary.

    We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.


  • Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.

    The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

    Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

    £29,970 to £36,483 a year Please note for part time hours the salary will be pro rata.
