Full Job Description

Our Physiotherapy team in Exeter Hospital currently have an opportunity for a Senior Inpatient Ward Physiotherapist (Orthopaedics & General Surgery).

As part of the team you will have clinical support available from your Regional clinical lead along with a team of experienced Physiotherapists and leadership from the management team on site. You will have a CPD budget to encourage you to continue your learning and striving for clinical excellence.

We can offer part time hours (20 hours per week) with a mixture of orthopaedic and general surgery patients.

The Role

You will see a wide range of post-operative cases, playing a key role in helping our patients achieve, maintain and recover to the level of health and wellbeing that they aspire to.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team including nurses, AHPS and consultants in order to optimise the health and recovery of our patients.

The hospital is brilliantly placed to support and mentor the successful candidate for this role, alongside our academy training programmes.

As a Senior Inpatient Physiotherapist you will:

  • Deliver high quality, effective clinical care.

  • Ensure on-going monitoring of the standard of treatment provided.

  • Be compliant with all professional, clinical and integrated governance standards and participate in clinical audit and other quality assurance processes.

    Have a BSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent and you'll be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

  • Have a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience, having worked on an inpatient ward and with a high level of orthopaedic knowledge.

  • Understand both the Public NHS and Private healthcare service.

  • Demonstrate evidence of further professional training and continual professional development, reflecting your desire to develop as a practitioner.

  • Be a confident communicator with the ability to engage effectively with patients, the general public and other healthcare professionals.

  • Be able to auscultate a chest.

  • Be a competent and confident IT user with strong organisation skills.

  • Have the ability to prioritise and deal with your varied workload in an effective and timely manner.

The hospital has 2 theatres, as well as a hybrid cardiac catheter laboratory/theatre and an Endoscopy suite. There are two ward areas: an inpatient area with 21 beds and a day-case ward with 12 beds. We also have a busy outpatient department, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and radiology department including an MRI scanner. We specialise in elective orthopaedic and spinal surgery, cardiology including invasive procedures, general surgery, plastics and cosmetic surgery, ENT and gynaecology. The Hospital has a MAKO robot that undertakes some of the joint replacement surgery which we have become well known for in this field of surgery.
