The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports. The Public Safety Group's role is to keep the public safe by cutting crime, disrupting the highest harm criminals, protecting the vulnerable and ensuring that our police, fire and rescue services are as efficient and effective as they can be in delivering front line public services. We work with our partners in other government departments, local government and the voluntary sector to develop and implement policy, provide funding, and deliver legislation. The Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) is a cross departmental, multi-agency programme based within the Home Office. Its central purpose is to deliver the Emergency Services Network (ESN), which will provide critical mobile broadband voice and data communications services to the police, fire and ambulance services (and other public safety bodies) across England, Scotland and Wales. We need skilled planners within the ESMCP Project Management Office (PMO) established to support the G6 Head of Planning and Integration and/or relevant leads within the PMO and wider Programme. This is a specialist role within the ESMCP Project Management Office (PMO) established to support the G6 Head of Planning and Integration and/or relevant leads within the PMO and wider Programme. The post holder will; Delivery and leadership - Provide visible and effective leadership and work with Project Managers (PM) to deliver the business case benefits and outcomes. Develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice project planning standards, tools and processes. providing practical advice which ensures plans are tailored to the needs of the programme and fit for purpose, within a fast-paced technical delivery environment.,

  • Project planning - Apply advanced knowledge in the discipline of planning for the analysis and successful resolution of risks and issues and identification of opportunities.
  • Project performance and controls - Analyse performance data, looking at trends to identify areas for improvement and collaboration, and selecting appropriate methods and tools to resolve them.
  • Guidance and support - Provide specialist advice and support to ensure successful delivery of projects. Provide guidance and advice to the Project Manager during project initiation on selection of planning approach, tools, processes and proportionality. Identify and lead the introduction of best practice planning processes, tools and templates, using industry standard best practice as a benchmark. Build planning capability.
  • Line management of a number of Senior Executive Officers (SEO), Project Planners, encompassing task management, professional and career development, HR activities etc.
