Full Job Description

We are pleased to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and passionate policy planner to join the Spatial Planning Team at Chorley Council. We are part of the Central Lancashire Local Plan partnership, leading the way in sub regional plan making to create a new single Central Lancashire Local Plan for 2023-2041. It is ambitious and forward thinking policy work you will be a part of. You will also be involved in some affordable housing work including the Council's Low Cost Home Ownership Scheme. What you will be getting up to As a Senior Planning Policy Officer, you will play an important role in the preparation and delivery of the new Central Lancashire Local Plan, collaborating closely with colleagues across South Ribble and Preston Councils and wider partners and the local community. Additionally, you will provide advice regarding planning policy to Senior Officers, the Development Management team, Councillors and members of the public. You will deputise for the Team Leader and lead on helping first time buyers access affordable home ownership.

  • A degree or post graduate qualification in town planning.
  • Experience of the preparation of Local Plans
  • Experience of dealing effectively with members of the public and conducting consultation exercises
  • Experience of advising senior managers and elected members on planning policy matters.
  • Experience of appearing as an expert witness at Public Inquiries and Examinations is desirable.
  • Additional requirements
  • This role requires a valid UK Driving Licence.
  • This role requires the ability to attend meetings and events out of hours.
