Full Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to work within The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) Wigan in the schools across the Wigan Borough. The successful applicant will work alongside the Operational Manager to lead and manage the MHST, work with CYP and there families and support the team with clinical /line management supervision. Mental Health Support Teams (MHST's) are part of a national initiative funded by NHS England, Health Education England and partners with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in response to the government's Green Paper for Young People's Mental Health.MHSTs are designed to help meet the mental health needs of children and young people in primary, secondary and further education (primarily for ages 5 to 18), by providing mental health support in schools, colleges and other education settings. The three core functions of a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) are:

  • Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to-moderate mental health problems.
  • Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school/college approach
  • Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.
  • Main duties of the job The post holder will provide a range of high-quality care appropriate to the child or young person's needs which will include; full mental health assessment, risk assessment and management, family and social assessment, consultation and therapeutic interventions as part of the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies model including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Applicants must be qualified CBT therapists or have completed/undertaking the senior wellbeing practitioner training. Candidates must have completed the clinical supervision course to enable them to clinically supervise CYWP/EMHP or CBT or be prepared to undertake this course as part of there CPD. The post holder will have a range of skills and knowledge base to deliver clinical aspects of the role in an education setting and will be competent to do this work as an autonomous practitioner within professional practice guidelines and a structured supervision framework. Whilst the post requires experience in both clinical and managerial skills, there is the expectation some time spent in actual delivery of school based interventions, as a senior clinician on the team, supervision, support and guidance is offered to junior staff members as well as a contribution to the ongoing development, training and progression of the team.
