In the decentralized organization, Global Engineering Quality is responsible for defining and executing a global strategy to ensure the quality, safety and sustainability of Vacuum Technique's products, engineering processes and customer support activities. The required product legislation is global, complex, and specialized in its application to vacuum pumps and associated equipment. The Senior Product Compliance Engineer will provide central functional expertise and guidance to the central technology teams and product companies regarding product compliance requirements and updates. As part of their role they will need to monitor developments to standards and legislation, and be able to interpret requirements so that they are understandable. Their long term objective is to increase levels of awareness and competence in product and materials legislation within central technology teams and product companies. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop and communicate the VT product legislation requirements as the world legislation evolves. Including simplifying legislation into modules suitable for multi-cultural use through the use for SharePoint and the VT Design Manual.
  • Develop the VT engineering teams expertise in product legislation. Including training at product company sites via appropriate communication methods.
  • Support the new product compliance process, including training to all teams.
  • Manage and audit the Technical Construction File content, location.
  • Assist with the development of a VT materials standards database.
  • Work simultaneously on more than one project or issue, monitoring performance, identifying planning issues across projects, to ensure projects are delivered to time and budget.
  • Ensure that all areas under their direct control are conducted and work in a safe and effective manner in compliance with the Company's Health and Safety policy and ensure that the requirements under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act are met.
  • The job holder is a member of the Global Engineering Quality function (which reports into the central Technology function). The role will be based in GTC, Burgess Hill, West Sussex (UK). Travel may be required to provide training, auditing, and expert advice to the Product Companies. Liaison and interactions with third party notified bodies, product managers, quality management, product experts, application managers, service and customer facing sales teams may be required. The bulk of the workload will be assisting the Product Companies in developing their own product legislation competence and establishing their own locally based expertise within NPI project teams, especially to prepare and conduct product compliance reviews. The job holder is responsible for planning and controlling their own activities to deliver assigned individual work. Problems will relate either to delivering assignments against demanding and changing timetables or will be technical problems relating to individual work. Assignments/projects will be allocated by the Product Compliance Process Manager, who will make or delegate major operational decisions. No direct budgetary control. No direct reports. The role supports a business with an annual revenue of $15~20M.

  • Engineering or science degree
  • 10 years engineering experience ideally with Vacuum products in a development or support role.
  • Experience with product legislation safety reviews, product safety testing and external directives/regulations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant International and European product safety standards.
  • English, although Czech or Chinese would be useful.
  • Own and supervised staff work performed to time, cost and quality standards.
  • Confident grasp of engineering matters and processes, indicated by speed, accuracy and quality work.
  • Concern for quality and safety in the organisation, products and applications.
