Full Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Project Accountant to join our Finance team based in London to assist the Finance Business Partner in all aspects of their work to provide the business unit project managers with contract support, from initial tender to new account set-up and ongoing management on the relevant reporting systems. This role supports the finance-related work of the project teams and ensures accurate reporting of data. The International Development Unit (IDU) in the UK implements projects funded by clients including, but not limited to, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). As a Senior Project Accountant your role will include but is not limited to:

  • Being responsible for all aspects of contract financial reporting including financial analysis, data reconciliation and the production of internal / external financial results.
  • Taking responsibility for all aspects of contract financial support with a focus on budgets and financial reporting.
  • Responsible for timely billing and receipt of income on commercial contracts.
  • Working with the project teams to provide accurate budgets and forecasts, provide contract analysis upon request and supply performance reports on a timely basis.
  • Ensuring integrity and control of business unit specific balance sheet accounts including detailed analysis and reporting of contract work in progress.
  • Assisting the finance business partner in maintaining accurate and timely reporting of monthly management accounts by undertaking appropriate accounting, analysis and review.
  • Supporting the finance business partner to ensure that appropriate financial systems are in place and work with the business unit to bed in finance processes and procedures.
  • Supporting the finance business partner with any other finance work and help to maintain team cover as required.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post and as appropriate, including responsibility for non-FCDO contracts at the level mentioned above.

    Qualified accountant or finalist / affiliate - no specific institute requirement.
  • Experience working in an international development consultancy - essential.
  • Experience of project processes, specifically FCDO financial procedures - essential.
  • Computer literate with strong Microsoft Excel skills - essential.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and demonstrate independent judgement.
  • An effective team member, productive with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Positive attitude and a team mentality.
