Full Job Description

In this role you will lead and execute work for the EU-funded GATHERINGS project which involves research into ethical, legal, and societal impacts raised by surveillance and security practices in public spaces. You will also be responsible for leading work in the UK-funded RAISE project which tackles the ethical issues of human-centric AI design and issues SMEs face when using generative AI. This role also has potential to contribute to projects on online harms and bias in AI., Project Delivery

  • Successfully and independently lead the timely management and delivery of the GATHERINGS and RAISE projects (including research, reports, other outputs) in direct communication with project coordinator and project leads, team members, manager, partners, and clients.
  • Represent Trilateral at the project meetings and external events.
  • Business Development
  • Independently lead and contribute to funding applications to meet research services revenue goals and actively participate in related knowledge sharing activities.
  • Work with I&R Management and Research Innovation Lead to embed Trilateral commercial priorities into proposals and projects.
  • Research Impact
  • Take initiative to enhance the company's profile with relevant teams including the Research Communication Officers and Manager to maximise project impact, e.g., via peer-reviewed publications, popular press articles, presentations.
  • Deliver and support impact requirements & represent the research projects externally in line with the goals of the Law Enforcement and Community Safeguarding cluster and Trilateral Research.
  • Strategy Delivery
  • Maintain and grow, through publication, funding and interdisciplinary outputs, subject matter expertise in the Law Enforcement and Community Safeguarding domain and research-driven innovation for Trilateral.
  • Lead and engage in inter-disciplinary projects and initiatives, involving successful collaboration and communication with other Trilateral teams and Trilateral's commercial research requests.
  • Team Development
  • Mentor project and cluster team members on project and/or subject matter expertise.
  • Where required, line manage junior team members and work with the Cluster Lead to support appropriate training and development.

    PhD, or Masters in relevant social science, legal, or humanities related field.
  • 3 years of post-doctoral research experience or equivalent in relevant social science, legal or humanities related field.
  • Experience of leading work in one or more research projects.
  • Proven track record building relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience in delivering a range of research outputs in successful projects.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, co-design, or other applied methods.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Professional knowledge and technical skills Essential:
  • Good understanding of the societal, ethical, legal, or human rights challenges affecting law enforcement and/or community safeguarding.
  • Good understanding of new and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.
  • Awareness of developing research proposals, funding relationships and/or tender/bid writing.
  • Knowledge of AI regulation and/or data protection legislation in Europe and/or the UK.
  • Knowledge of qualitative research methods (e.g., surveys, workshops, interviews).
  • Strong multi-disciplinary stakeholder engagement skills, ideally experience working with law enforcement (or similar) and/or technology developers.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Desirable:
  • Knowledge of legislation/policies regulating law enforcement and/or technology development.
  • Good understanding of the policy and legal challenges of law enforcement.
  • Familiarity with EU-funded projects.
  • Knowledge of research ethics.
  • Risk management skills.
  • Experience with research project administrative and budgetary requirements.
