Full Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Audience Insight, BBC World Service, the post holder will supervise and support large scale audience research projects, and conduct data analysis to inform key business decisions and support business growth and impact. A key focus of this role will be the working on the BBC's Global Audience Measure (GAM), an annual update of the BBC's audience and impact globally across all markets and services, which involves building a single customer view of the business through merging multiple data sources and methodologies. The Senior Research Executive will support the Research Manager on the survey side of the Global Audience Measure, which involves surveying several key World Service Markets to estimate the BBC's reach in these markets, but also to learn more about the audience, and the BBC's key competitors. The Global Audience Measure is a key measure of the BBC's and BBC News' performance globally, which directly informs future, and long-term business decisions. You will be involved in all stages of survey research, from commissioning and survey design to overseeing fieldwork, analysing data, and debriefing to leadership at all levels. This role will have a heavy focus on quantitative research, and on research methodologies used in remote and less digital markets (CAPI, CATI, etc). While familiarity with qualitative and digital analytics techniques isn't essential, it is a bonus, and a good repertoire of analysis, strategic thinking, and presentation skills is also key.,

  • Managing tasks throughout an entire audience research project lifecycle, from commissioning and project managing agencies, to developing instruments, designing sampling plans, performing analysis and presenting findings. You will have the ability to move between multiple projects in a given day or week.

    Analysing data from current and previous research projects, from digital analytics, and external data sources, to answer business questions. You will have the ability to analyse large sample (1000+) datasets and tell meaningful stories with them. Experience working with digital analytics tools will be beneficial.
  • Communicating insights and what they mean in terms of editorial, product, and business decisions to stakeholders at all levels. You will have the ability to listen, understand people's needs, and influence decisions.
  • Collaborating effectively with the rest of the Audiences team, and the rest of the GAM team. You will be leading on as well as supporting others on projects and thus will be a team player and a great communicator.
  • Are you the right candidate? The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of quantitative research methodologies; demonstrable experience of producing/commissioning quantitative research is critical - especially face to face and phone interviewing. Additional essential skills/experience:
  • Deep knowledge of quantitative research methodologies and rich experience of doing/commissioning quantitative research is critical - especially of face to face and phone interviewing.
  • Experience of "media industry standard" audience measurement approaches - especially CAPI and CATI methodologies, is essential
  • Proven examples of managing projects that have had a demonstrable impact on an organisation.
  • The ability to synthesise data/ insights from different sources and arrive at strategic recommendations
  • Great communication skills and ability to work with the rest of the World Service Audience Insight team. You will be a leader who has the ability to work independently, and be a team player
  • You will have a keen interest and appreciation of the cultures, peoples, and current affairs of other countries/ markets. Ideally you will have an interest in international news and knowledge of global media and news audiences.
