Full Job Description

The Blavatnik School of Government is looking for an enthusiastic, professional, highly organised Research and Policy Officer to work in this fast-paced and varied role at the heart of a new £30m six-year global research and policy initiative. The What Works Hub on Global Education (WWH) aims to dramatically increase learning outcomes for children in developing countries by generating new evidence, and working with policymakers and NGOs to deliver the best teaching at scale. The postholder will contribute to the WWHGE work in Pillar 3, research in implementation science in education. In addition to conducting independent research, the postholder will be expected as much as is feasible to work on research projects with or relevant for our strategic partners, working closely with Stefan Dercon and Noam Angrist. Furthermore, the postholder will be expected to support Stefan Dercon in work on Pillar 2.

You will hold a Graduate degree in economics, education, public policy, development studies, with a focus on research on education with a strong quantitative focus. You will have proven experience and a clear continuing interest in pursuing the themes broadly linked to this post and have experience of and possess the ability to carry out independent quantitative research, with solid theoretical foundations. You will have experience of conducting research in developing economies, preferably with experience in research on Africa and South Asia. With the ability to innovate an work effectively with colleagues, you will also possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially those necessary for working in policy circles and for communicating effectively to relevant academic and non-academic audiences using a range of media.
