Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior physiotherapist to join our dynamic MSK team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to rotate around a variety of areas. Rotations are 9 months long and include MSK out-patients, community based MSK out-patients, hand therapy, and elective orthopaedic inpatients. There is exposure to rheumatology, hydrotherapy, and a variety of classes.
You will have the chance to work with surgeons and specialist therapists who are experts in their field and this gives rise to excellent learning opportunities. There is opportunities to get involved with research, service improvement and we have a well established learning and development programme.
Candidates are required to present original certificates for qualifications at interview stage., The main duties of the job include
+ The physiotherapy assessment and treatment of a wide range of post-operative trauma and elective orthopaedic conditions.
+ Opportunities for audit and research.
+ Opportunities to watch ground-breaking operations to enhance clinical knowledge.
+ To work closely with senior colleagues to develop and enhance current service provision
+ To plan for and treat patients with complex needs who require orthopaedic surgery.
+ The role also involves the development of other staff in the team and wider MDT, supporting students, supervising junior and unqualified staff

On-Call
Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational., + To provide a high standard of physiotherapy service to patients with orthopaedic conditions on wards and in the Therapy department
+ To participate in the orthopaedic Band 6 rotational scheme, this involves working across the Trust in a variety of unit settings, assessment and treatment centres, and in community facilities. This includes at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary on the trauma wards.
+ We aim for the first two rotations to include one in-patient and one out-patient rotation.
+ To act as a source of knowledge on the management of patients presenting with a wide range of orthopaedic conditions and provide an advisory/educational service to patients, relatives, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals.
+ To take a role in the specialist assessment and treatment of patients within the orthopaedic speciality who may have complex and or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated.
+ To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from a senior physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is routinely evaluated.
+ To work jointly with staff from social services, hospital trusts, primary care trusts, education, etc., in providing rehabilitation and co-ordinating discharge.
+ To educate and train physiotherapists, other health professionals and physiotherapy students in the management of physiotherapy conditions as appropriate in current rotation.
