Senior Sister / Charge Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Senior Sister / Charge Nurse position on Robert Hadfield 1 at the Northern General Hospital., We are looking for a highly motivated experienced Sister / Charge Nurse to assist the Matron to manage this 28 bedded acute Respiratory ward. The post holder will provide clear leadership and management to nursing staff providing care to patients within Robert Hadfield 1. They will provide 24 hours continuing responsibility for the ward whether on duty or not. They will also ensure the highest possible quality care is delivered within the Respiratory ward and wider directorate, and that it meets the expectations of the individual patients. Main duties of the job Promote high quality care, ensuring individual patients needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated regularly. Care will be patient centred and patients will be encouraged to participate in the planning of their care using evidence based research practices.

• Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging and complex patient problems. Agree solutions, ensure and promote options to enable the delivery of optimum patient care
• Ensure that an effective discharge procedure is planned and actioned so patients are discharged safely and in a timely manner
• Act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide ranging physical and emotional needs.
Take the lead in managing contentious, sensitive and delicate issues with patients, their relatives and staff,

  First level Registration valid with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
• 1st Degree or evidence of working towards
• To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
• Evidence of continued professional development, Extensive post registration experience.
• Relevant experience at Junior Sister / Charge Nurse level
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
• Evidence of management and leadership qualification / development
• Evidence of managing change, Cares about and knows the importance of doing the right thing and making a difference
• Possesses a straight talking and honest, whilst being diplomatic, communication style.

All three directorates operate on the Northern and Central campus' although the acute admitting base for all of the specialties is at the Northern General Hospital. The Care Group has 11 acute base wards at the Northern General Hospital and one acute and one elective base ward at the Central Campus. Outpatient services operate on both campus' and are supported by the Patient Booking Hub at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
