Full Job Description

We are looking a candidate with extensive knowledge and experience of working within a Pathology laboratory. Previous experience of method or equipment validation/verification, familiarity with the requirements of ISO15189 and working within the regulatory requirements of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is essential. The successful candidate will possess the investigative and presentation skills required to lead on all aspects of quality assurance, both internal and external, across the Blood Transfusion service, with the aim of maintaining standards for UKAS accreditation and other appropriate accreditation and regulatory requirements e.g., Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The post-holder will be required to manage the day to day running of the quality management system within Blood Transfusion and be familiar with risk management processes, incident investigation and management processes, performing trending analysis and producing regular performance and compliance reports for Blood Transfusion, Pathology and service meetings.
The successful candidate will be provided post related training, and support for the identification and trending of errors and adverse events, implementing effective corrective and preventative actions to improve safety and quality.

An exciting opportunity has come up within the East and South East London (ESEL) Pathology Network, for an enthusiastic Quality Lead who shares our vision of a high-quality transfusion service and invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced Band 7 Biomedical Scientists, or a Band 6 already with experience of fulfilling a Quality Lead role and is keen to move their career in that direction.
The successful candidate for the role of Quality Lead must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organise and motivate staff. They will be responsible for the implementation, development, and management of the quality management system for the Blood Transfusion departments within ESEL as part of a team of 3 Blood Transfusion Quality Leads.

The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites. Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
