+ To lead on Clinical Practice or the Learning Ward
+ Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care to a named group of patients
+ Work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
+ Work proactively within the team to achieve unit and trust goals and objectives.
+ Work with and promote recognised policies, protocols and guidelines, + Responsible for their practice as per NMC code of conduct. Sustain/ improve their knowledge/professional competence, via the appraisal process, attend mandatory/specific training.
+ Plan/assess care plans with patient, family and MDT, sensitive to patients dignity and privacy.
+ Promote effective communication with the MDT.
+ Recommend innovative changes in clinical practice to enhance care.
+ Participate in audit processes/action outcomes.
+ Demonstrate understanding of research and application to clinical practice. Use clinical expertise/knowledge to promote a 'nurse led' approach to care.
+ Ensure safe control/custody of drugs within the ward/department in line with Trust Policy/Standard Operating Procedures.
+ Inform Ward Manager of changes which may affect safe/competent practice. Ensure that patient care is documented accurately and timely.
+ Deputise for and complete delegated tasks from Ward Manager
+ Ensure efficient use of ward/department resources.
+ Leadership to members of the ward, promote effective team work.
+ Be responsible for monitoring staffing levels/skill mix to ensure appropriate to meet the needs of patients, take action to rectify identified deficits through ward manager/modern matron.
+ Maintain a positive approach to success within the team.
+ Assist with induction/act as role model to new staff/students.
+ To ensure that patients and carers are aware of their current and ongoing health needs.
+ To participate/promote clinical supervision., + Is wholly responsible for his/her practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council code of professional conduct. Takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his/her knowledge and professional competence. To continue any development highlighted through the appraisal process and attend mandatory and specific training sessions.
+ Plan and assess programmes of care with realistic nursing goals with the consultation of patient, family and multidisciplinary team
+ To be sensitive to patients needs in respect of courtesy, dignity and privacy.
+ Promote effective communication with the multi-professional team.
+ Provide information and education, which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle (in an appropriate manner to meet patients learning needs).

+ Work collaboratively with outside agencies.
+ Be aware of and utilise other statutory and voluntary agencies that can provide appropriate care for patients.
Management/Organisational Responsibilities
+ Deputise for the Ward Manager

+ Ensure effective and efficient use of all ward/department resources.
+ Provide leadership to all members of the ward, promoting effective team work.
+ Be responsible for monitoring staffing levels and the skill mix to ensure that this is appropriate to meet the needs of patients, and taking initial action to rectify any identified deficits through ward manager/modern matron.
+ Maintain a positive approach to achievement within the team.
+ Ensure adequate provision and maintenance of equipment
+ Assist with the induction of new staff and students, acting as a mentor.
+ Act as a role model giving guidance and support to staff and students.
+ Participate in problem solving related to work organisation.
+ To ensure that patients and carers are aware of their current and ongoing health needs.
+ To participate and promote clinical supervision.
