Full Job Description
- CAD user able to open and manipulate 3D parts where required to assist with FEM. As a Senior Stress Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:
- Ownership of all stress deliverables to meet design review entry requirements.
- Stress signatory for drawing issue.
- Stress signatory for non-conformance reports.
- Support to manufacturing engineering team in support of production.
- Support to concessions and design modifications.
- Mentor early in career engineers / graduates (the role does not have line management responsibility).
- Prepare estimates to complete stress packages of work (new bids / modifications to existing products).
- Preparation and management of work packages to be outsourced to 3rd party outsource providers.
- Work within project teams including the R&D function to provide subject matter expertise for new product development using existing or new materials.
- Review existing FEM and reports and investigate / analysis deviations and changes to the design., Presentation of work at design reviews using power point presentations.
- Report checking (peer review) and check stress.
- Support to design process working with design engineers.
- Understanding engineering drawings and the drawing change process - assessment of appreciable effect (fit, form, function) with respect to non-compliances or drawing changes.
The successful candidate will support all product lines within the business including metallic and composite structures for aerial refuelling and actuation equipment. They will be qualified to at least Bachelor's level in an engineering or a science based degree or equivalent, and have experience in the aerospace industry. Stress department activities include structural analyses, mass and loads analysis to support a product through its development lifecycle. These analyses may be performed at component, sub assembly or system level. Structural analyses may be classical hand calculations or FE based and include static, fatigue and dynamic assessments. The role requires the candidate to own their own analysis and be work closely with the product team to take designs from conception, development, qualification and integration. They will be responsible for verification of the stress requirements to underwrite a statement of airworthiness. It would also be beneficial if you have experience in the following areas: - Use of an LCM system such as SmarTeam or Windchill.
- Dynamic analysis / impact analysis.
- Knowledge of developing technologies.
- Optimisation techniques for design.
- Vibration analysis / frequency response analysis.
- Analysis of composite/additive manufactured components., Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
- 5 Years hands-on experience Skills:
- Linear static, nonlinear and explicit FEA on individual components and sub-assemblies. Use of MSC suite of software (PATRAN, NASTRAN, APEX) or Ansys software suite. (or similar).
- Build and verify/validate FE models, running analysis, post processing and authoring of reports.
- Ability to write stress reports to demonstrate compliance to meet structural and performance requirements.
- Static strength and fatigue analysis utilising hand calculations (Excel or Mathcad as appropriate).
- Analysis led Design philosophy throughout design development.
- Use of Excel or Mathcad for data processing and analysis.
