Full Job Description

Prax Group is currently seeking a high calibre, dynamic and energetic individual to join our finance team as Senior Technical Accountant. The role will take ownership to solve technical accounting issues for emerging significant, non-routine, and/or unique transactions. Responsible for understanding the finer details of proposed or executed transactions through review of available contracts and agreements and collaboration with key cross-functional business partners including our International Accounting teams. The candidate will leverage experience researching relevant accounting guidance to identify key accounting issues and recommend accounting and disclosure requirements for complex (non-routine) transactions and ensure that our accounting policy and accounting estimates are updated timely to reflect all changes. The role is pivotal in preparing the Group consolidated Annual Report and Financial Statements for audit. Reporting to the Global Head of Commercial Finance, the postholder's key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Undertake in depth technical research, writing guidance papers and accounting policies on IFRS requirements and other reporting developments.
  • Responsible for drafting new group accounting policies and reviewing and amending existing ones.
  • Manage a wide range of technical accounting and reporting queries from countries across the Group.
  • Responsible for reviewing the accounting for financial instruments across the Group.
  • Ensure transactions, commercial structures, and key business events are accurately reflected in their financial reporting.
  • Dive deep into technical research on complex transactions, providing strategic accounting advice.
  • Responsible for the annual tangible and intangible asset impairment exercises, going concern assessment and calculation of the Group's WACC and discount rates for key business Cash Generating Units.
  • Take the lead in refining and streamlining commercial accounting processes and structures.
  • Concisely and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to inform all key stakeholders of the accounting and business implications of transactions, particularly those with limited or no accounting background.

    Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • High level of knowledge of key business tools - MS Office, systems (SAP) and analytical tool.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting new accounting guidance/policy and the accounting treatment of issues.
  • Experience working through ambiguity to communicate clear accounting positions and operational solutions.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas industry an advantage.
  • Self-starter, confident with working independently as well as working as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet demanding deadlines and adapts to business needs.
  • Excellent time management/organisational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Solution-oriented technical accountant with a commercial mindset.
