Full Job Description

We are seeking a talented, highly skilled and experienced senior engineer and technical lead to join our team and play a critical role in our company's success. Your role will provide Intelsat with the lead for providing highly capable ground satcom infrastructure encompassing the full satcom ground infrastructure covering small terminals through to large anchor stations for high availability satcom networks for key clients. As a qualified individual with a diverse background, experience, values, and strong work ethic, you will help the client design, procure, install, test, commission and maintaining a diverse set of satcom terminals at their critical sites as a turn-key end to end solution. The solutions will focus on integrated antennas and other communication equipment to ensure seamless connectivity for our clients. With your technical expertise and excellent customer service skills, you will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability in our service offerings. What you will do Your primary role will be to help maintain and deliver new subsystems across the Skynet Satellite Ground Segment. Specifically, you will:

  • Be recognized as the internal lead ground segment specialist for military and commercial satcoms with comprehensive view on latest innovation in the field.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to identify system requirements and interfaces to support ground stations operations enabling integration with both legacy and new systems.
  • Manage, capture, and assess the current state of the Ground Segment infrastructure and collaborate with other parties to put forward recommendations for the replacement and modernisation of the Ground Segment in line with the customer's needs.
  • Lead on collaboration with relevant stakeholders and advise on SGS infrastructure to help define the technology roadmap for the future.
  • Be the Technical Lead for the Satellite Ground Segment, heading cross functional technical teams to define and co-ordinate the delivery of solutions from multiple manufacturers, integrators, and partners for the full engineering lifecycle from requirements capture to design, procurement, integration, testing, and assurance.
  • Co-ordinate between the MilSatCom programme/s and third-party suppliers, managing expectations between all stakeholders and resolving issues as they occur.
  • Provide technical guidance for negotiations with peers, customers, and suppliers to discretely help to influence decisions.
  • Represent Intelsat and the Ground Segment stakeholders at meetings, Governance forums, Design Reviews and Readiness Assessment activities.
  • Through good understand of the market, identify growth opportunities for Intelsat to grow their UK & European business and capabilities in the ground segment market.
  • Additionally, you will continue to support existing MilSatCom customers to maintain relationships and support development of new business which contributes to the company's strategy.
  • Successfully collaborate with a small team of like-minded individuals to provide small batches of technologically advanced, fit for purpose terminals ranging from 60cm manpacks to 16m heads., Demonstrating adaptability, and collaboration while navigating a multi-matrix and multi-cultural environment and embracing diverse thinking.
  • Effectively communicating information to diverse audiences, including translating subject matter terminology into clear business terms and program relevance.
  • Facilitating straightforward decisions from complex situations to keep teams and projects moving forward.
  • Creatively solving complex problems using innovative solutions while paying attention to details and results
  • Quickly earning the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders, setting direction and approach, mobilizing, and motivating teams, and executing with limited information and ambiguity.
  • Analyzing requirements and designs to develop successful action plans.
  • Managing conflict resolution using strong negotiation ability, influence, and professionalism.

  • A university degree with a minimum of 12 years of recent, relevant experience with satcom operators, ground terminals in both military and commercial environments. Equivalent recent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation and delivery of Satellite Ground systems and Ground Station operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of Systems Engineering on large and/or complex engineering projects and an understanding of how this influences the business strategy.
  • Strong understanding of RF fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of ground station equipment to include up and down converters, power amplifiers, receivers, and other antenna elements; low-voltage power distribution, backup battery, generator systems, and international electrical standards.
  • Firsthand experience with laboratory test instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
  • Strong project management skills, detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
