Full Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Estates Team at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital.

Estates plays a crucial role in keeping our hospitals and services running. From essential power, heating, plumbing and mechanical systems, to the inside and outside of our buildings and grounds, Estates staff make sure these are safe and well-maintained for our patients, visitors, and other staff.

Our staff have a wide range of expertise and skills - from construction trades and technical skills, building and site management, surveying, and more. Together they carry out vital inspections, maintenance, and repairs across our sites, so that we can keep giving excellent care to our patients.

This is a hands-on role where you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, and workload of various operational and reactive engineering staff within Estates. You'll also manage and supervise external engineering contractors, to ensure works are completed on time and to agreed standards.

You'll need to be highly experienced within your trade, as well as have the management, people and communication skills needed to lead an effective team., This is a full-time position, with typical hours of 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. There's also plenty of opportunity for training and development, including learning skills outside of your core trade (City and Guilds NVQ), training for Authorised Person (AP) status.

Carrying out the full range of maintenance duties specific to their core trade as required, including non-routine, planned, corrective and breakdown maintenance tasks.

Developing task lists - including carrying out regular audits

Attending and advising Trust-wide Steering Groups relating to your expertise and ensuring that it is understood and implemented.

Undertaking regular Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and testing of Mechanical systems. Recording and analysing results with reference to historical data and determining appropriate actions and provide condition and non-compliance reports as necessary.

Witnessing the testing of new systems, plant and equipment installed on Trust property. Reconfirming correct operation on a regular basis and providing appropriate training to other Estates staff and users.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.

In the Estates Team Operational team you will be working alongside fellow Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Engineering Technicians and Craft persons, Building Managers and Building Craft persons. All with a commitment to service excellence to our patients and their environment.
