Full Job Description

The Space Sector Team (within the wider Aerospace and Space Team) promotes UK space capability overseas to increase prosperity here in the UK by attracting investment and supporting companies to export. Our stakeholders range from UK-based satellite and rocket manufacturers to international partners such as NASA, the Japanese Space Agency and large international companies. We are the sector experts within the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) that support decision-making and delivery across the Department's full range of objectives, providing expertise and advice to senior officials and Ministers.

To help attract and streamline investment into UK-based companies operating in priority areas of the space sector, the Space Sector Team lead work on the Private Investment Framework for Space. This involves collaborative working across the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), UK Space Agency (UKSA), the Ministry of Defence (MOD), the Foreign Office (FCDO) as well as direct engagement with both domestic and overseas investors.

The Indo-Pacific market portfolio for the Space Sector Team reflects a number of trade and defence priorities including Five Eyes and AUKUS alignment, the UK-Australia Space Bridge and more.

This is a stimulating and exciting role, leading on the Indo-Pacific market portfolio and on some aspects of the Team's approach to attracting equity investment into UK-based space companies. You will help DBT deliver its parts of the UK Government's National Space Strategy, managing inward investment in line with the National Security & Investments Act and other legislation/policy, supporting companies to export their sensitive technologies appropriately, and building more resilient and secure supply chains with our partners and allies.

The successful applicant will co-ordinate trade missions for UK-based space companies to participate in large international conferences and events. The role holder will therefore be expected to travel as part of this role.

You will also be expected to closely manage inward investors in both the UK and overseas markets, and support implementation of the Private Investment Framework for Space. This would involve attending investment-related events across the UK and overseas, and supporting a cross-Whitehall team to deliver different aspects of the Framework.
