Full Job Description

The Transport Studies team works with different teams within the organisation. Because of this, you will be using your knowledge when participating in projects involving other disciplines and have the opportunity to develop your experience of working with these professions ranging, from Transport Policy through to Design, Construction and Maintenance with many others in between. It is a fascinating role, where you will be able to contribute your own transport planning and modelling expertise.

About the Role
You will be working with the other Principal and Senior Transport Planners in the team, as well as having line management responsibilities. This will include helping to train our Professional Development Programme (PDP) Graduate Transport Planners and Modellers.
Your work will include the analysis of issues, the development of options and the appraisal of possible solutions as part of preparing business cases. It will also include providing the necessary evidence to inform and support the strategic spatial strategies promoted by partner Local Planning Authorities, therefore, the use and presentation of data and associated analysis is vital to inform consultations, decision-making and funding bids. Consequently, we wish to make use of your skills to develop this key area.
Day-to-day duties include:

  • Advising on, leading and undertaking transport planning activities

  • Advising on, leading and using a variety of assessment tools including junction, microsimulation and strategic modelling as well as pedestrian assessments and the Active Mode Appraisal Toolkit

  • Advising on, leading and undertaking work to assist with problem identification, optioneering and scheme appraisal, including economic assessment

  • Assisting with providing information required for scheme design, necessitating familiarity with relevant DMRB sections and other guidance such as Local Transport Notes

  • Extracting and manipulating transport and movement related data to assist in analysis and interpretation as well as monitoring and evaluation, including presenting the data in way that is accessible to non-transport planners

  • Auditing transport assessment work including modelling done by 3rd parties

  • Preparing evidence and submitting information for funding bids, inquires and examinations

  • Training and mentoring other team members as well as colleagues in other teams., To apply, alongside your CV, you are asked to submit a statement providing the above evidence and short answers to the following questions:

    4. Please state one or two transport related issues you are interested in.

  • At least 5 years' experience in transport planning and use of relevant tools, including recent experience using VISUM and VISSIM;

  • Up-to-date knowledge of TAG and NPPF requirements

  • Data analysis, scheme appraisal and preparation of both reports and evidence

  • Active membership of a professional body

  • Ability to work both on your own (e.g. at home) and with colleagues in the office.

    This role has a starting salary of £45,680 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

  • We are excited to be hiring a new Senior Transport Planner to join our Transport Studies team. The team is based in Woking, in offices close to the railway station. We work flexibly, with 2 days in the office and other days either working at home or in alternative locations. Please note, the contractual location for this role is currently Quadrant Court, however it is our intention to move within the local area to Victoria Gate in Central Woking later this year.
