Full Job Description

The post holder will co-ordinate the delivery of the new Independent Travel Training Service. The service will support adults and young people with disabilities and/or autism to travel independently across the borough to access school, further education, day care settings or work. The post holder will deliver training (1-1 & small groups) and support trainees travelling on public transport. They will work closely with parents, carers and support networks, undertake risk assessments to maintain trainee safety and use effective action planning and assessments to achieve independent travel for their caseload. They will line manage the travel trainers, liaise with key stakeholders, ensure quality assurance, and take responsibility for signing off trainees once training is completed. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new Independent Travel Training service as a Senior Travel Trainer. The role involves supporting young people and adults who will benefit from the programme, to be able to travel on public transport. You will be working with the trainee and their support network to plan and deliver a bespoke travel training programme. Working peripatetically across the borough, you will manage a caseload of trainees and be responsible for their progression throughout the training. Our ITT programme will develop the confidence and skills to tackle journeys independently. As the Senior Travel trainer you will be responsible for developing a new team and shape the delivery of the ITT service. This will bring some great opportunities to work with stakeholders, develop team practice and resources and co-ordinate this new service.

We are looking for a skilled, proactive and flexible line manager who will help to shape this new service. You will be driven to really make a difference to our customers lives, particularly in relation their ability to travel independently. You will support and develop your team to deliver a quality service and meet delivery targets. You will offer 1-1 support and small group training to ensure trainees are equipped with all the skills and confidence they need to use a range of transport. You should be flexible in your approach to work and be able to work early mornings and late afternoons.
