Full Job Description

We are looking for applicants with experience in acute and/or general internal medicine who also have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional skills to work well in a multi-professional team. The posts would ideally suit a post CMT level doctor who wishes to gain further experience and skills before considering their next career move, or a registrar grade clinician who is keen to enhance their skills within the management of the acutely unwell adult patient. Each post holder will have a supervisor and encouraged to enrol onto a generic E-Portfolio.

Based within the South team covering Darlington memorial and Bishop Auckland Hospitals. The post-holder will be a key senior member of the medicine team with a clear role in ensuring comprehensive ongoing care for their inpatients. They will be working primarily with in the Medicine care Group under the supervisions of Medical Consultants based in a speciality but with flexibility to move within the remit of general medicine. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be committed to delivering clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with the clinical teams and commissioners

Main duties of the job

1. Liaise between nurses, junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.

2. Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled

3. Attend outpatient clinics.

4. Study for higher examination and maintain continued professional development.

5. Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

6. Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.

7. To supervise and manage junior medical staff

8. To assist in the teaching and training programmes for Junior Staff and Postgraduate Medical Education.

9. To support the development of clinical governance, using audit findings to improve the quality of treatment and to minimise clinical risk.

10. To develop innovative working practices, and to support the growing clinical contribution of non-medical staff.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
