As a Senior Underwriter within the Admiral Business Team, you'll be a key part of a dynamic team, responsible for assessing risks and making informed underwriting decisions that help deliver competitive insurance solutions for our customers. - Underwriting Decisions: You will review, assess, and price a variety of risks, making sure that each policy meets our underwriting standards and aligns with our risk appetite. Your decisions will ensure that our portfolio remains healthy and competitive, and that we're delivering the best possible outcomes for our customers.
- Risk Assessment: You'll use your underwriting expertise to assess the risks associated with each policy, ensuring the right balance between offering attractive coverage to customers and managing risk for the business. You'll be expected to make clear, well-judged decisions while keeping the company's guidelines and regulatory requirements in mind.
- Collaboration with the Team: You'll work closely with your colleagues in the underwriting team to ensure consistency across the board and share your knowledge and insights. Your role will also involve working with other departments to ensure smooth communication and decision-making processes.
- Technical Guidance: As an experienced underwriter, you'll assist more junior team members, providing guidance and sharing best practices to help them develop in their roles. You'll also help maintain the quality and consistency of underwriting decisions across the team.
- Policy Development & Review: You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the development and review of policy wordings. This will include making sure the wording is clear, meets regulatory requirements, and aligns with current market practices.
- Compliance: You'll be responsible for ensuring that your underwriting decisions comply with internal processes, regulatory standards, and company policies. Working closely with the compliance and governance teams, you'll help ensure that we meet all the required standards in our underwriting practices.
- Client & Broker Communication: You may need to engage with clients or brokers to explain underwriting decisions or resolve more complex queries. Clear communication and a customer-focused approach will be important in these interactions.
- SME Insurance Knowledge: Your knowledge of SME insurance will be valuable in assessing risks and identifying opportunities for process improvements. You'll be expected to stay informed about industry changes and trends, applying that knowledge to enhance your underwriting decisions.
Experience in Underwriting: You'll have solid underwriting experience, ideally within the SME insurance market, and be comfortable assessing a variety of risks and pricing policies accordingly. - Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is essential to ensure that all policies and documentation are accurate and compliant with internal standards and regulations.
- Problem-Solving Skills: You'll have the ability to assess complex risks and identify appropriate solutions, balancing risk and reward effectively.
- Communication Skills: You'll need to communicate underwriting decisions clearly, both internally and externally, and be able to explain your rationale to clients, brokers, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of Underwriting Guidelines: You should have a good understanding of underwriting guidelines, and be able to follow them while also recognising when exceptions may need to be made based on your professional judgement.
- Adaptability: The insurance industry is fast-paced, and you'll need to adapt quickly to changes, embracing new systems and processes as they evolve.
