Full Job Description

BBCS Global Entertainment is a growing division within BBCS. It operates across production hubs (UK, USA, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Nordics, SA and India) and a format licensing unit. The division develops, sells, licenses, produces and exploits non-scripted formats (eg Dancing With The Stars, Bake Off, Weakest Link, Top Gear, 1% Club) as well as scripted formats (eg The Office, Luther, Criminal Justice, Happy Valley). The position of SVP Global Format Sales is responsible for delivering revenue and profit in their territories in line with targets and growth ambitions by devising and implementing the overall business strategy for non-scripted and scripted formats, leading the Format Sales team and working with the senior leaders across BBC Studios.,

  • To achieve revenue and profit targets as part of the strategy and business plan for formats, covering Scripted formats and Non-Scripted formats (Entertainment, Factual Entertainment and Factual)
  • P&L ownership and accountability including deal approval and expenditure approval authority
  • Develops commercial strategy across formats to maximize the value of BBCS format IP and grow revenue and profit in order to underpin BBCS's investment in IP
  • Leads and manages the global format sales team (8 FTEs) based across multiple territories. Builds, leads, coaches and retains a high performing and cohesive team so that they can deliver BBC Studios Productions objectives and aspirations.
  • Provides stability to the teams, actively fostering good morale and high levels of engagement.
  • Builds and develops sales capabilities, ensuring all pitches and negotiations are planned and executed to world class standards.
  • Oversees and drives the creation of sales materials for new format titles, including promos, marketing materials and 360 commercial strategies
  • Contributes to the overall marketing strategies for BBS Global Entertainment, attends industry events and is a 'key face to market ' for BBCS formats
  • Inputs into IP/format investment plans, works with creative teams across the UK
  • Works closely with the Flying Producers on ensuring formats are compliant (in their territories) with BBC policies and production bibles
  • Collaborates actively with lines of business outside direct management, including Content Sales, to coordinate approach to clients and develop combined business plans that exploit opportunities across BBCS.
  • Is across the latest format sales position, and tracking versus budgets and latest forecasts and communicates trends and changes affecting budgets, forecasts and delivery.
  • Demonstrates expert understanding and knowledge of BBCS format content, rights framework and windowing strategy.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of market conditions, partners and competitors; is the company's expert for the business area, providing insight on behalf of clients.
  • Develops and delivers new business opportunities through the team; is restless in driving the team to find and secure new clients; takes the lead at more senior client level to nurture new opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance with BBC Code of Conduct, Editorial Standards, Advertising and Sponsorship Guidelines, BBCS values and all other commercial policy requirements, making sure that all business is conducted with the highest standards of integrity and ethics., Makes decisions involving complex trade-offs within and outside immediate scope
  • Approves sales agreements with high levels of discretion on pricing and terms & conditions, in line with BBCS sales policy
