The Surgical and Associated Specialties Board at Newcastle Hospitals Trust, consists of a range of surgical specialities including Breast, Colorectal, HPB, Vascular, ENT and Urology.

We are looking for a conscientious individual with an enthusiastic outlook to fulfil the role of Senior Waiting list Co-ordinator. This new role will involve the planning and scheduling of patients who require surgery within the regional HPB surgical speciality. Alongside the administration team you will be responsible for populating theatre lists at the Freeman Hospital and this new role will be pivotal in ensuring that these theatre sessions are effectively used.

Applicants will be reliable whilst having a flexible working approach in supporting systems and their functions. The post holder will have a genuine desire to provide a quality service for patients with a clear understanding of patient confidentiality. The role has lots of variety and ad-hoc demands, and the post holder must possess excellent time management and planning skills. This role would be well suited to someone with high levels of organisational and planning skills and a competent use of MS Excel would be expected.
Managing waiting lists for consultants and their teams in the Hepatobiliary services the Hepatobiliary service. This will cover admissions to wards and the Day Treatment Centre.
Maintenance of waiting lists to ensure patients are seen in line with their clinical priority including contribution to regular 18 week pathway meetings, The Waiting List Co-ordinator will manage the waiting list team. It carries specific responsibilities for ensuring the systems and procedures used by the team are operating effectively and within the context of the Trust's policies and priorities. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that patients at risk of breaching are managed under the supervision of the appropriate Directorate Manager for the relevant specialty.
Job Purpose
+ The post holder is expected to understand and apply the Patient Access Policy to their everyday activity, ensuring that patients are managed fairly and contributing to the ability of the Trust to maintain waiting time targets.
+ The Waiting List Office administrative service will contribute towards a systematic approach to delivering the NHS Plan commitments for access to elective and day case surgery, specifically the drive to guarantee maximum waiting times and introduce Patient Choice through booking systems. The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Directorate Managers. Communication with patients will be proactive, inviting discussion and consultation around their preferences and availability. Patient focus and Customer Care will be a fundamental element of the service, delivered via written, telephone and face to face contact. Patient confidentiality must be observed at all times.
+ The post holder is the line manager to the Waiting List Office Team. It carries specific responsibilities for ensuring the systems and procedures used by the team are operating effectively and within the context of the Trust's policies and priorities. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that patients at risk of breaching are managed under the supervision of the appropriate Directorate Manager for the relevant specialty.
