Full Job Description

Davy Down Riverside Park is a 32 acre site rich in biodiversity and history located in North Stifford, Thurrock. It is a mixed mosaic habitat of meadow grassland, woodland, reedbed and has the river Mardyke running through. It hosts a diverse range of fauna and flora including the rare meadow scabious bee, common spotted and pyramidal orchid a broad array of woodland fungi, otters, green and great spotted woodpecker and invites wintering migrating birds. It has a rich history dating back to the pilgrims' passage to Canterbury and, more recently, local significance with the construction of a pumping house in the Victorian era suppling still over 45,000 local people with water. TCV have partnered with The Land Trust and Essex and Suffolk Water to provide habitat and estate management for both wildlife and visitors. As the Senior Warden you will organise and deliver the management plan, through a high quality programme of volunteering activities. These will include regular practical environmental volunteering activities, inclusive local community engagement sessions, leading corporate activities and developing on further local community outreach projects. You will be working with and leading groups of people from an array of diverse backgrounds, abilities and motivations. As Senior Warden you recruit and manage a team of volunteers and Volunteer Officers. You will also be developing local and neighbouring projects in South Essex with your team leader, which will require some travel. It is anticipated that one day a week will be off site. You will be the public facing point of contact for all visitors to the park and be responsible for the monitoring and reporting of issues on the site. As part of this role you will liaise with all parties and organisations involved with Davy Down so excellent communication skills are essential. Skills Needed, The post is 28 hours a week which may be split over 4 or more days, depending on individual circumstances. Working one weekend day a month will be necessary and occasional evening work may be required. If additional funding becomes available, we would like to increase the hours to full time, 35 hours per week.

  • An understanding of Health and Safety and Safeguarding and their embedding in projects.
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential as the role requires some travel.
