Full Job Description

The Sensitivity Review Service we've developed enables the UK's Government departments to meet the requirements of Public Records legislation by selecting, reviewing and transferring records consistently and securely for permanent preservation at The National Archives. The work is vital and protects the UK's relations with other countries, as well as our defence interests, the intelligence services, and the personal data of individuals, all within a legal framework.
It is an exciting time to join us as we develop our ground-breaking digital review system to deal with the rapidly increasing volume of digital records which began in the early nineties. Our team is growing as we are now reviewing digital records for other Government Departments as well. You will work with digital and paper records and contribute to the ongoing development of the Sensitivity Review Service.
As a Sensitivity Reviewer you will use your excellent judgement to make decisions about the release of government information. You will be able quickly to grasp complex themes and subject matter. You will have an excellent eye for detail. In a report you'll be able to spot the one sentence that is sensitive. You are efficient, effective and thorough and will bring the highest level of commitment to providing an impeccable service for our customers. You will be used to building networks and developing relationships with a variety of stakeholders. A good understanding of the applicable legislation would be an advantage.
Having ideally worked in HM Diplomatic Service, for another Government Department or for an international institution like the EU or the UN, you will have practical experience of navigating the subtleties of cultural difference and an understanding of how Governments and international organisations operate, as well as a strong awareness of security considerations.

Preserving important records
Protecting secure data
Embracing new technologies
It all matters

Use your judgement to make vital decisions for the nation

As a Sensitivity Reviewer you will use your excellent judgement to make important decisions - from selecting records for preservation, through to determining what should be released under a Freedom of Information Act request. Conducting sensitivity reviews of all kinds of information, you'll make full use of your ability to quickly grasp complex themes and subject matter. We will add the rest, including giving you a thorough grounding in the applicable legislation.

You have an excellent eye for detail and the ability to work independently. In a report, you'll be able to spot the one sentence that is sensitive. You'll also be able to articulate a clear rationale behind your recommendation for redaction, retention or closure. Efficient and thorough, you are committed to providing an impeccable service for our customers. In all you do, you'll remember that decisions you make every day will contribute to the public record and maintain national security.

Get to grips with technology at the forefront of change

There has never been a more exciting time to join us. You'll play an active role in the success of a ground-breaking digital review system that we're developing to deal with the rapidly increasing volume of digital records, across a range of Government departments. You will work with digital and paper records and contribute to the ongoing development of the Sensitivity Review Service.

Having ideally worked in HM Diplomatic Service, for another Government department or for an international institution like the EU or the UN, you will demonstrate an understanding of how Governments and international organisations operate. Whether you're seeking a new challenge as a public servant or looking to transfer skills from another sector into a fresh career path, you'll bring practical experience of navigating the subtleties of cultural difference.

At FCDO Services we protect the UK's interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings and courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech and a whole lot more.
