Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a brand new team of Service Assistants to join our Facilities Team at Ferndene Hospital in Prudhoe for the opening of a new ward in January 2025 so you will be joining the team at an exciting time!

We have 2 Full Time (37.5 hours per week) and 1 Part Time (30 hours per week) contract available.

The role will be on a rotation of Catering and Domestic work, which are planned and change on a fortnightly basis.

Our team of Domestics keep our buildings clean and tidy and provide a great service to patients, visitors and staff. You could be cleaning a hospitalward, patient bedroom or office areas and corridors.

Our Catering team assist in basic food preparation and undertake cleaning duties within a designated kitchen/dining room area. Where required, to operate an on-site cash register and ensure the safe and accurate handling of monies.

Because we provide services to the NHS your work supports better patient care. It's important work and you will need to take pride in what you do and complete tasks to a high standard.

If you are on a hospital ward you will be working alongside patients who have mental health illness, learning disabilities or brain injuries. You could be cleaning their rooms and the shared areas on the ward and you will get to know them and the clinical staff and you'll feel part of the team. It can be a real challenge working on wards like these but we also know that our staff find it rewarding.

Main duties of the job

Carrying out a range of cleaning tasks in areas such as offices, public areas such as corridors, areas which patients use such as shared spaces on wards as well as bedrooms and bathrooms

Cleaning tasks can include things like dusting of walls, ceilings and curtain rails, dusting and polishing of furniture and paintwork, hoovering of carpets, mopping floors

Being able to follow instructions and follow a routine work schedule which sets out your tasks and carry out those duties often without supervision

Being aware of the patients that you will be working alongside and work in a way that is respectful, caring and compassionate

You will use equipment and cleaning products safely, adhering to all control of substances harmful to health (COSHH) rules and regulations

Understanding infection prevention and control rules and adhering to themCompleting any paperwork such as quality checks and any other documentation required

Help with any cleaning audits or other surveys and inspections that take place

To carry out general catering duties in the kitchen and dining room areas, including cleaning tasks, washing pans, utensils, crockery, cutlery, equipment, floors, etc. This may include the use of machinery, e.g. dishwasher, floor scrubber/dryers, etc.

To receive and correctly store a range of catering products, i.e. frozen and chilled food, tinned and dried goods. This includes assisting in the packaging of frozen, chilled food.
