Compass is delighted to have been selected to provide Mental Health Support Teams (Wave 12) in education settings across Birmingham (Locality TBC) working in partnership with other health and care providers across Birmingham.

The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a SM to implement, develop and lead our new Birmingham MHSTs. We will begin the implementation of Compass Birmingham Wave 12 MHSTs from 01 January 2025 but hope to appoint the SM ahead of implementation to begin to bring shape and influence to the service as soon as possible.

The service will be made up of 6 Mental Health Support Teams and a small specialist team adding value in such areas as digital intervention and equalities and engagement

Compass Birmingham MHST (Wave 12) is a new early intervention and preventative mental health and emotional wellbeing service. The service delivers evidenced based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs.

The service is part of the national MHST Programme, which has been commissioned following the Transforming Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Care Provision: A Green Paper (2017)., You will be a values-driven (integrity, valuing each individual, solution focused, consistent and reliable) leader with a passion for supporting children, young people and families mental health and wellbeing. You will also have

  • Relevant degree (e.g. in health / social care), or equivalent

  • A management/Leadership qualification e.g. NVQ Level 5 or equivalent experience.

  • Previous experience leading a service comprised of clinicians delivering evidence-based interventions in a community service

  • Have experience of leading and directing a skill mix team that is made of different roles and competency requirements.


  • Due to the nature of the role there is a need to travel to individual schools, which will require a driving license and access to a vehicle (for individuals who cannot drive due to a disability, we can consider accessibility options i.e. provided via Access to Work etc).
