Full Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Services, the Services Development Officer will assist the Services Department's Leadership Team (the Director of Services, Head of Services, and Head of Training and Events) with the research, development and implementation of new income-generating services and products offered by the Bar Council to its members and any affiliated organisations, associations and individuals. They will be responsible for ensuring that the services and products they help to introduce are appropriately assessed, risk-managed and implemented, and that they take advantage of the skills and expertise of those working throughout the organisation.

The role requires a creative and professional individual capable of independent working and with an aptitude for stakeholder research, project management and the development of business cases. The Services Development Officer will be in regular communication with the Bar Council's members and, as such, must be a confident and professional individual.

The Bar Council is the voice of the barrister profession in England and Wales. We lead, represent and support the Bar in the public interest, championing the rule of law and access to justice. Our nearly 18,000 members - self-employed and employed barristers - make up a united Bar that is strong, inclusive, independent and influential.

As the General Council of the Bar, we're the approved regulator for all practising barristers in England and Wales. We delegate our regulatory functions to the operationally independent Bar Standards Board (BSB).

In return the Bar Council offers excellent terms and conditions of employment, including:

  • Up to 31 days annual leave

  • Up to 12% employer's pension contribution

  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay

  • Life cover, and more
