Full Job Description

As an autonomous practitioner undertake independent consultations with clients, including assessing, monitoring and evaluating individual client's contraceptive and sexual health needs including referral to other Health Professionals required. Issue methods of contraception according to Patient Group Directors & clinical protocols Provide STI screening and treatment according to Patient Group directions & clinical protocols. Encouraging partners attendance and treatment when necessary. Provide advice and cytology screening as appropriate, according to local policies. To take responsibility for the smooth running of the day to day management of the GUM service.

Experienced RGNs who have both/either a contraception (DFSRH or equivalent) and STI qualification (STIF Intermediate) will be considered. The successful applicant will be required to deliver patient care and manage all areas within the department demonstrating professionalism, clinical expertise with excellent communication skills in all aspects of their work. The work is varied and includes conducting consultations for both contraception and STI screening. Working from PGD to dispense both contraceptive and STI treatments, STI management and health advising & results management is also required as part of the role. The provision of LARC methods including sub dermal implant insertion. This role is to work across all access Liverpool sites ( RLH, Garston & The Beat), therefore travel will be required on rotational basis., The successful applicant will be required to deliver patient care and manage all areas within the axess service, demonstrating professionalism, clinical expertise with excellent communication skills in all aspects of their work.,

  • First level Registered Nurse
  • Contraception & Reproductive Health Certificate (ENB 901/R71 or equivalent postregistration Diploma/degree level module) and/or willingness to undertake and maintain DFSRH qualification
  • Ability to be a Clinical Mentor (ENB 998/997 or equivalent post-registration degree level module) following appropriate training
  • Degree (health related) or equivalent
  • FSRH LoC in SDI I-R
  • Desirable criteria
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation Course (STIF) or equivalent experience
  • HIV and AIDS related conditions (ENB 934 or equivalent)
  • Care and provision for HIV/AIDS (ENB 280 or equivalent)
  • NVQ trainer (D32/33)
  • Counselling skills/certificate, Significant post-registration clinical experience within Sexual Health field (or equivalent experience)
  • Recent clinical experience within Sexual Health/Contraception field ( or equivalent)
  • Evidence of participation in Audit & Research, Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of clinical issues within Sexual Health/Contraception
  • Evidence of maintaining own level of knowledge and expertise within Sexual Health/Contraception
  • Experience & knowledge of Fraser guidelines/Child Protection & vulnerable adults issues, Ability to undertake a sexual health consultation autonomously
  • Ability to undertake cytology following appropriate training
  • Ability to undertake sample collection for STI screening and pregnancy testing (bloods/urine/swabs etc) following appropriate training)
  • Ability to undertake client consultation and administer drugs/treatments according to PGDs following appropriate training
  • Ability & experience in participating with surgical procedures and treatments (for example cryotherapy and colposcopy)
  • Evidence of ability to relate to the needs of young people
  • IT skills (basic keyboard skills)
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, To travel between sites (internal and external)
