Full Job Description
The role of the Shift Engineer is primarily to support the running of the factory by resolving breakdowns and by delivering maintenance and departmental KPIs. Secondly they are also required to drive improvement across the site in good Engineering Practice, and performance.,
- Responsible for all reactive and proactive maintenance work, whilst making sure it is carried out to the highest possible standards across the whole of the site.
- Expected to carry out all maintenance and repairs across the factory, in both a low care and high care environment.
- Attend to breakdowns when necessary, ensuring that there is always a rapid response, and that plant equipment and machinery breakdown time is minimised. Always endeavour to reduce downtime of site plant and machinery.
- Carry out repairs to plant and equipment effectively and efficiently, either alone and/or as part of a team.
- To carry out PPM onsite whilst always ensuring that there is a pro-active approach to planned maintenance and a high PPM output.
- Deliver on plant uptime and maintenance KPI's through planned, preventative & predictive maintenance.
- Deliver improvement work on machinery and site improvement work
- Ensure Engineering time is managed effectively and that that there is low Engineering down-time
- Improve OEE. Output Measures/KPI's:
- Quality of work - completed efficiently.
- Flexible in role to be able to carry out duties in all areas.
- Reactive time to attend and complete breakdowns.
- Create working relationships with the team to work together to resolve issues and support to an arranged deadline.
- To carry-out PPM during production and optimise machine availability to ensure all PPMs are completed to schedule.
- Attend meetings, contribute, and ensure tasks are completed.
- Machine Uptime.
- BE AUDIT READY AT ALL TIMES.
- Responsible for toolbox inventory and "clean as you go" attitude.
- Apprentice progression.
- Flexible in supporting shift when required., Ensure H&S is not compromised in any way by either yourself or others.
- To ensure that Health & Safety is not compromised in any way by engineers or contractors when completing their task.
- Maintaining tools and equipment, so that they are in a safe working condition; as well as making sure that the workshop and plant rooms are safe environments at all times.
- Ensure all Health and Safety standards are met and that all equipment complies with Company and legal standards.
- Health & Safety practices are followed and displayed at all times.
- Nothing is that important than it cannot be done safely.
- Responsible for toolbox inventory and "clean as you go" attitude.

- Fully respect and assist others in the delivery of their roles. Promote and present a "can do" culture within engineering and across the site. Support an environment where people are encouraged to achieve their full potential to benefit the business.
- Provide hands on technical support to the engineers, to ensure the development of practical skills and expertise of the team. Support colleagues to adopt the correct procedures.
- Engineers need to be competent to do what is expected of them. Identify personal training plan and seek out opportunities within the business to support education of yourself and others.
- Ensure channels of communication within the team and the business.
- Shift engineers are seen to be proactive and supportive by other teams within the business
- Transfer of skills, understand the needs of the team to ensure performance.
- Skills base of Engineering Team satisfies business requirements. Take part in the training plan in place identify your competency training and skill gap requirements
- Emails, Verbal, Engineering Shift Report Customer Focus:
- Build good working relationships with key customers i.e. the Technical & HSE teams.
- Represent a positive image of the engineering department when required (during audits, customer site visits)
Minimum 3 years maintenance engineering experience - Skilled Engineer with Formal electrical qualifications.
- ICT skills.
- Manufacturing Industry experience - Industry considered: Packaging, Food, FMCG.
- Good Communication Need to Demonstrate:
- Engineering Knowledge both electrical and mechanical.
- BTEC Level 3 or equivalent, Advanced engineering apprenticeship preferred.
- Technical drawings, Microsoft Office, and CMMS
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment (maintenance environment preferred).
- To all levels regarding updates and ordering spares.

The working hours in this role are 4 on 4 off (Night Shift - 6pm - 6am) Salary: £51,516 per annum,
