Full Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for 6 registered Nurses employed by our trust to train as a midwife at Kingston University, the #1 University in London for Midwifery (Guardian League Tables 2022).

You will receive a monthly salary throughout the course duration, funded at middle of band 5, and free tuition fees- an amazing offer to support you in gaining this NMC registration and increase your employment opportunities.

You will be able to undertake your placement experience at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's Maternity Unit where you will join our amazing team in caring for women and their families in a variety of settings, taking advantage of great learning opportunities. Your placement will be supported by an experienced team of midwives, obstetricians, maternity support workers, students, apprentices and neonatal practitioners. We currently have a variety of settings including low-risk birth centre, community teams and complex care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the maternity team, mothers and their families carrying out assigned tasks involving direct care including, clinical care, information giving, guidance and reassurance, assistance and support to women and their families.

This role is for NMC registered nurses to complete a shortened midwifery MSC over two years with Kingston University. It will include a combination of work-based and academic learning between the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWHFT) and the university.

The post holder will:

  • Be allocated maternity placements in the hospital and in the community setting to gain the knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

  • Be required to achieve the standards as set out by the NMC and AEI and on completion of the programme register as a midwife.

  • Take every opportunity to develop their own practice and expand their own general and specialist midwifery skills.

  • Display effective communication and work as a role model by adhering to the Trust expected behaviours and values.

  • Act with integrity and professionalism upholding the reputation of the trust and midwifery profession at all times.

  • Work within risk management/ occupational health legislation and Trust's procedures for safe working practices.

  • Demonstrates the Trust's values at all times and is aware of national and local objectives for maternity care.
