Sibling Support Worker

At Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice, we care for children and young adults with life-limiting conditions. We support hundreds of families, both in our hospice and in family homes.

Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family; including overnight care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits and much, much more.

It costs around £6.5m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. Statutory funding makes up 16% of this amount and the rest is raised through fundraising activity.

Our services include overnight stays and community breaks at home or in the hospice. We also support the whole family from diagnosis with our multi-disciplinary Family Support team who provide counselling, sibling support groups, music therapy and much more. Our care team supports these families in our modern, purpose-built building. All our rooms/bedrooms have a homely feel. We have a sensory room, spa pool, cinema room and six acres of gardens.

We support families from a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The hospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and North Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families and staff to use.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of our Family Support Team providing holistic support from the point of referral through to post bereavement. This role will be working primarily with the siblings of children with life limiting conditions as well as those who are bereaved. The role involves visiting siblings aged 7 18, to conduct 1:1 support based on their emotional wellbeing. This can be in their educational settings, in the family home or within the hospice so includes travel within our catchment area. The facilitation of group work within the hospice may also be required.

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice strongly recommends for direct care roles full COVID & FLU vaccinations. Further vaccination history is required as part of the pre-employment checks.

To fulfil the role effectively you will be a creative and empathetic person able to work flexibly and dynamically to meet the holistic needs of children and young people. You will have experience working with children and young people from a range of backgrounds as well as knowledge and experience of facilitating and delivering pastoral support interventions on a 1:1 and group basis. You must also be able to travel to various settings within our geographical catchment area.
