Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated trainee paediatrician (ST4 or above) with an interest in service development and simulation to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as one of two Paediatric Simulation Fellows for Leeds Childrens Hospital (LCH). The Paediatric Simulation Fellows will receive support locally in the Trust from a mentor/supervisor who has an interest in simulation. The Simulation Fellows will be encouraged to attend courses relevant to medical teaching and simulation and to enhance their knowledge and understanding during this post. They will be expected to organise, run and feedback weekly simulation sessions in different departments, with the opportunity to work on relevant quality improvement projects. Both posts will have relative flexibility allowing successful candidates to develop their own interests as well, meaning much of the post is self-directed. There is an expectation that successful applicants will present their work at

various simulation meetings and national specialty meetings e.g. RCPCH, BAPM. This post will be non-clinical during daytime working with a full on-call commitment to general paediatrics (September starter) or neonatology (March starter). The role suits trainees who: Are motivated to change and improve training at Leeds Childrens Hospital by establishing and expanding the in-situ simulation Are comfortable working in uncertain environments and across traditional boundaries Relish the opportunity to develop their own ideas and initiatives Are committed to and passionate about improving the NHS. This post will be non-clinical during daytime working with a full on-call commitment to general paediatrics or neonatology (pro rate for LTFT). Applications are open to trainee paediatricians: At ST4 or above in the paediatric run-through training programme Working full time or less-than-full-time With a national training number With full GMC registration Ideally applicants would also have completed
GIC and be an instructor on NLS/APLS or have evidence of experience in teaching sim. This is a fixed-term role for 12 months. The role would be undertaken out of training and therefore, this post is likely to extend the trainees completion of training (CCT) date. This should be discussed with the trainees educational supervisor and training programme director.
