Full Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic, technically-minded individual with fantastic communication and organisational skills to support our newly created Simulation Suite, working alongside colleagues as part of the Medical Education Team. You will be a team-player, capable of managing your own workload; an excellent people person and be able to quickly build relationships with a wide variety of professionals. Working with the Medical Education Service Lead and the Simulation Medical Leads, you will ensure that all our courses are supported, with the right kit in the right place at the right time, and you will work with the wider team to grow our service.
This is a new and exciting post so there is room to grow and develop the role., The Simulation Technician's role is to provide support to Trust staff delivering Simulation Based Education sessions. This will incorporate the following:
· Demonstrate to a range of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals how to use
Simulation manikins and associated technology.
· Preparing the teaching space in advance with all relevant equipment and consumables.
· Providing basic maintenance of the simulation manikins, and to escalate need for repair as
appropriate.
· Ensuring the audio visual systems are working effectively and that they are maintained in
order to ensure sound business continuity.
· Supporting the delivery of low fidelity and high fidelity simulation sessions across the Trust
sites, including designated in situ simulation sessions where needed.
· Working alongside colleagues in the Medical Education Team supporting the administration and coordination of the undergraduate and postgraduate components of medical education., This role is will suit candidates who wish to shape the future of education with cutting-edge technology in an innovative and dynamic field.
The role will report to the Medical Education Service Lead and Simulation Medical Lead and will provide vital technical and administrative support with activities that will include:
Main duties and responsibilities
1. To support the simulation training programmes by the setting up of simulation manikins and associated software for each simulation scenario and the use of hi-tech audio visual equipment
2. Assist the Simulation Faculty Leads in the running of scenarios by running the necessary software control programmes
3. Demonstrate how to use the Audio visual equipment to the Faculty Leads to support them with smooth running of the teaching sessions, addressing any technical issues if they arise
4. To maintain all simulation equipment in a state of readiness, cleanliness and troubleshoot any problems connected with equipment operation including mobile simulation
5. Develop and maintain the Intranet pages for simulation and the Simulation Suite
6. Providing technical and administrative support for all simulation-based learning and teaching activities
7. To oversee room booking of the Simulation Suite
8. Plan and organise simulation teaching in advance and communicate plans effectively.
9. To administer all simulation teaching sessions to include provision of Faculty Leads and trainees, booking of venue, preparation of registers and certificates in a timely manner.
10. Providing safe, well-equipped and managed training environments.
11. Providing first line care and maintenance of all simulation and audio-visual equipment.
12. Providing immediate support for technical issues across the services, particularly in support of teaching, training and room bookings.
13. Order the necessary stocks and supplies to support the smooth running of the Simulation Suite, identifying when replacement equipment may be required and highlighting any issues to the Service Lead.
14. Maintain high standards of customer service and a high level of quality in all aspects of their work.
15. Coordinate Undergraduate and Postgraduate educational events and placements as required
16. Build and maintain a database of equipment, supplies, simulation course information in order to inform the Service Lead on future requirements and service developments
17. Required to complete Audits in relation to the equipment held, and complete customer satisfaction and annual staff survey,.
Systems and equipment
18. The use of high tech audio-visual equipment including the ERL (Extended Reality Lab) CortexUI which is the interface used for simulation.
19. The operation of simulation manikins and associated software.
20. Troubleshoot any issues which may occur with technical equipment associated with simulation.
21. Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office package including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Teams.
22. Occasional use of in-house systems such as ESR, eProc and Allocate Healthroster.
23. Will require attention to detail when setting up simulation and problem solving, this may be interrupted when answering queries from other staff including Faculty Leads
Decisions and judgements
24. Excellent planning and organising skills will be required in order to plan training for 12 months in advance.
25. Able to make decisions on how best this training will fit within the trainee curriculum and Faculty Leads availability.
26. Will work within the policies of the Trust eg Health and Safety, Moving and Handling and IT.
27. Work independently and as part of the wider Medical Education Administration Team., will seek advice from Service Lead as required.
Communication and relationships
28. Provide IT and technical advice in relation to the technology to all users of the simulation suite
29. The Simulation Technician will often be the person who greets visitors, trainees and faculty.
30. Have the ability to communicate effectively to create a positive learning environment.
31. Have excellent organisation and communication skills in order to successfully liaise between a variety of health care personnel from a variety of clinical and non-clinical backgrounds
32. May be exposed to some emotional sessions when supporting simulated teaching sessions such as delivering bad news, death of a patient, verbal aggression.
Physical / demands of the job
33. Occasionally required to assist in the moving of the simulation manikins and audio visual equipment as required around the Simulation Suite and the Trust
34. Must be able to drive to other Trust sites when required for teaching and training purposes.
Most challenging/difficult parts of the job
35. Organising the logistics of each simulation teaching session and timely communication with both Faculty Leads and trainees to ensure the prompt arrival and smooth running of each session.
36. The post will require determination and flexibility with a strong commitment to education and ensuring that the administration and technical capabilities are efficient and effective to support the simulation-based learning.
37. The Trust has training facilities on different sites and these range from low to high-fidelity with a wide variety of equipment. .
