Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our team to join us as in either permanent and fixed term position. Our roles are available full time however, we wold love to hear from applicants how are looking for a part time role as well. The Palatine Ward is a joint collaboration between the haematology and transplant service and the teenage and young adult (TYA) service, providing high quality care for adult patients with haematological malignancies and TYA patients with all types of cancers. We are a 31 bedded ward - all rooms are en-suite side rooms - with specialist HEPA side rooms for isolating severely immunocompromised patients. We also have a specialist room for the treatment of patients undergoing radioiodine radiotherapy. We give established evidence-based specialist treatments including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We are JACIE accredited and regularly carry out autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and provide exciting new treatments such as CAR T-cell therapy, all supported by a comprehensive and thorough training process, inclusive of UKONS certificate for the delivery of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and care of patients receiving SACT. Our Clinical Practice Facilitator team (CPF) are here to support you for your education and development needs and you will be fully supported during your orientation program and beyond.,
- Deputising for and supporting the ward managers.
- Be responsible for and maintain a safe environment, escalating issues appropriately
- Provide a welcoming and approachable management support ethic for all staff and act as mentor to designated staff ensuring each staff member participates in a personal development plan and act to maximise the potential of others.
- Act as team leader ensuring that your team are compliant with training requirements.
- Assess, plan and implement clinical care and maintain associated patient records.
- To coordinate the shift, organising staff and allocation, ensuring appropriate and effective skill mix and deployment of staff for appropriate patient needs.
- To have an awareness of the staff and non-staff budget
- Be aware of Health and Safety issues and ensure relevant risk assessments are undertaken.
- Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy, investigating speedily and compassionately
- Ensure all trust policies and procedures are adhered to and new ones implemented as necessary
- Regularly liaise and report to senior nursing and service managers on unit affairs and staff development.
- Assist in nursing recruitment process when required
- Take a progressive approach to the management of short and long-term sickness/absence in collaboration with the senior sister/charge nurs
