Full Job Description

To assist the Ward/Department Manager in creating and maintaining an environment in which members of
the department team can contribute to the maximum of their ability in providing a high standard of care,
staff welfare and staff training.
Designated to take charge of the ward/department regularly in the absence of the Ward/Department
Manager.
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, and for the development and
implementation of programmes of care without supervision, Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care. Provide management and organisation of a clinical area. Participate in the education, development, and line management of other staff members. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. Participate in improvement of services and the quality-of-care provision. Evaluate care delivery according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity. Collect, collate, evaluate, and report information, maintaining accurate patient records. Involve patients and carers / relatives in the planning and delivery of care. Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers / relatives. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. Have, Evaluate care delivery according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity. Collect, collate, evaluate, and report information, maintaining accurate patient records. especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers / relatives. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. Have significant experience of managing patients who require NIV, CPAP and Nasal Hi Flow O2 therapy. Have significant experience of working in a multidisciplinary team in the management of major trauma patients.
Accept delegated line management responsibilities of other team members including performance development reviews and personal development planning. Support the Ward / Department Manger to maximise best use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission, and discharge arrangements. Participate in the recruitment and retention of staff. Promotes the development of services within the ward/department area and assists the manager to implement change. Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources; fulfil the responsibility of authorised signatory. Monitor health, safety and security of self and others and promote best practice in the ward / department area. Demonstrates positive leadership within the area during periods of high workload and other pressures and maintains standards with leading by example.
Provide education and development opportunities for the team. Develop own "expert" clinical knowledge and participate in the development of others. Ensure own compliance and compliance of others regarding mandatory training and revalidation requirements. ILS Provider PILS Provider ALS provider (or willing to attend within 6 months) ePALS provider (or willing to attend within 6 months) Level 2 Nurse trauma course provider (or willing to attend in 6 months)
Assist the Manager in audits and the development and implementation of action plans. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others, participate in the development of same.
Continually monitor standards of care and lead the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research. Initiate patient and public involvement activities in the ward / department area, leading to service
improvement. Promote people's equality, diversity, and rights.
Maintain active status on NMC register. Act always in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and guiding documents Adhere to Trust Policy and Procedure. Maintain up to date skills and knowledge and maintain awareness of professional issues. Maintain a professional portfolio.
