Full Job Description

In consultation with the Ward Sister agree the standards of care to be achieved within their area of control. Ensure that an acceptable standard of care is maintained for patients in his/her charge. To manage and participate as appropriate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care programmes for patients in his/her charge. In the absence of the Ward Sister to manage, deploy and supervise staff allocated to his/her area and to ensure that all nursing staff are aware of the extent of their remit in planning, prescribing and evaluating nursing care. When deploying nursing staff and allocating clinical teams to specific patients or group of patients ensure that the competencies within that team are appropriate to the care required by the patient. To ensure that the care given is achieved in the most effective and efficient manner commensurate with sensitivity to patient needs. In consultation with the Ward Sister/Lead Nurse/Assistant Lead Nurse identify when acceptable standards of care cannot be achieved due to a shortfall in expertise, manpower or resources and to consult with the Ward Sister/ Assistant Lead Nurse and/Lead Nurse regarding the resulting implication.

  • Adult/Paeds
  • Diploma in Nursing/Willingness to undertake, Degree in relevant clinical/professional subject
  • Management Qualification
  • Advance Life Support or willingness to undertake
  • ATLS, TNCC, APLS, PLS
  • Experience Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration experience, with sufficient current post registration experience in A&E department or Critical Care setting
  • Teaching experience
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting, Advanced clinical skills
  • Evidence of good organisational skills
  • Effective problem solver
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients and all members of the Multidisciplinary Team
  • IT skills eg email, MS Word
