Full Job Description

To maintain a high standard of professional nursing care, including providing immediate assessment and care of patients. In addition to providing sound leadership as well as working within a team, to supervise, nurture, counsel and develop the knowledge and skills of staff.Duties and ResponsibilitiesMain duties of the job

  • Utilise their professional skills and knowledge obtained through learning and experience.
  • To continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of patients without supervision and incorporate the standards and philosophy of the Emergency Department.
  • Take an accurate and comprehensive nursing history of individual patients.
  • Work with medical staff to understand their patient's specific requirements and also their organisational requirements.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team providing them with professional and clinical nursing expertise.
  • Able to give patients a balanced view of risks and benefits of symptom management methods.
  • Able to confidently initiate alternatives if planned interventions are not satisfactory.
  • Assist in the transfer of critically ill patients to other departments within the Trust and other hospitals.
  • Be competent in the use of equipment used to monitor and facilitate treatment and care of the patients, i.e. 12 lead ECG, non-invasive blood pressure recording, central lines, infusion pumps and intravenous drug therapy, recording and informing medical staff of blood results.
  • To provide managerial and professional responsibilities through the professional team structure/ framework. To be an innovator/ change agent.
  • To participate in/ with advanced resuscitation skills in respect of trauma, adult and paediatrics.
  • Needs to be competent and confident to take the nurse lead within the department on given shifts.
