Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 36 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary for a Band 6 position to join the ward management team. This position requires an experienced nurse with surgical knowledge and experience. The 20 bedded ward is the Northern Gastric and Oesophageal unit specializing in Oesophageal and Gastric cancer and other problems relating to Upper Gastro Intestinal. The ward cares for patients pre and post operatively and also for patients with a palliative diagnosis. The unit is diverse and takes emergency surgery patients from the Emergency Department and surgical assessment unit within the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The ward consists of twelve cubicles and two four bedded bays. One of the bays is a monitoring bay which provides extra monitoring for patients stepping down from the critical care units. There are lots of learning opportunities available on the ward for the successful candidate who will develop knowledge and skills specific to the Band 6 role. It is expected that the successful candidate would support the ward leader in ensuring the highest clinical standards were achieved ensuring policy is followed and embedded maintaining patient safety at all times. The successful post holder will be supported to develop service improvement initiatives and will be supported to develop the team of nurses alongside the fellow Band 6 and under the ward managers leadership.

  • 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week, The successful candidate will support the ward management team in ensuring high standards are maintained and patient safety is prioritized.
  • The role will involve leading and managing a team of nurses. Developing a safe and clean environment for patients ensuring all IPC policies and procedures are embedded. The role will support the ward manager in ensuring staff are a skilled and knowledgeable workforce ensuring competencies are achieved to support their care delivery.
