Are you passionate about driving sustainability and reducing environmental impact? We are looking for a Site Environmental Lead to spearhead our sustainability initiatives across two of our key sites in Bristol: Filton and Western Approach. Reporting to the Site HSE Lead, you will lead the charge in managing energy resources, implementing environmental improvement projects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. As our new Site Environmental Lead, you will play a critical role in driving our sustainability initiatives forward. This exciting position will be based across two of our key sites in Bristol:

  • Filton, where we design and manufacture large, complex structural wing assemblies and detailed metallic components.
  • Western Approach, a world-renowned International Centre of Excellence specialising in composite wing structure design and production.
  • Reporting directly to the Site HSE Lead at both sites, you will be responsible for overseeing the efficient use of energy resources and leading the charge on environmental sustainability projects. Your focus will be to identify, develop, and implement cost-effective initiatives that drive measurable environmental improvements. Key responsibilities include ensuring both sites comply with our Environmental Management System (EMS), as well as the requirements of ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) standards. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to embed sustainability into our operations and make a tangible impact on our energy footprint.How you'll Contribute As the Site Environmental Lead, you will be instrumental in driving sustainability and environmental improvements across both our Filton and Western Approach sites. Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Sustainability Projects: Identify and manage cost-effective energy and environmental projects to reduce the sites' environmental impacts, including energy use, waste, and emissions.
  • Environmental Awareness: Promote and embed a culture of environmental responsibility by raising awareness of our sustainability initiatives, ensuring accessibility of environmental information for all employees.
  • Data Collection & Reporting: Collect and monitor monthly energy, water, and waste data. Track performance against KPIs, produce metrics for site teams, and present key insights to senior leadership to drive informed decisions and continuous sustainability improvements.
  • Training & Campaigns: Develop and deliver engaging environmental awareness training and campaigns that align with our sustainability goals.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain and continuously improve all Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation, including supporting procedures, work instructions, and other related materials. Ensure alignment with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and SECR standards, keeping all records up to date and accurate.
  • Compliance: Work alongside the Site HSE Lead to ensure both sites fully comply with all relevant environmental legislation, schemes, and agreements. Regularly review and update processes to meet evolving regulatory requirements and align with industry best practices.
  • Auditing & Compliance: Plan and conduct audits to ensure EMS compliance, address environmental procedures, and identify areas for improvement. Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and environmental agreements.
  • Utilities Management: Monitor and analyse electricity, gas, and water usage across both sites. Oversee and improve our energy monitoring systems, ensuring effective sub-metering and accurate reporting.

  • Essential:
  • Full UK driving license
  • Experience managing Environmental and Energy Management Systems (EMS & EnMS) (ISO 14001, ISO 50001)
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, ideally within a manufacturing or multi-site environment
  • Strong skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience conducting and leading environmental audits
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Desirable:
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Management, Sustainability, or related field
  • Certifications with relevant environmental bodies such as IEMA or SocEnv
  • Experience in aerospace or manufacturing environments
  • Leadership experience in environmental management
  • Proficiency in energy monitoring software (e.g., Siemens Advantage Navigator)
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills
  • Competencies in other HSE areas (Health & Safety, Quality) are advantageous.
