Full Job Description

Cherry Grove Primary School in Chester wishes to appoint a Site Maintenance Officer to maintain the upkeep of the premises and ensure the health, safety and security of pupils, staff and visitors. This role would suit someone with possible previous caretaking experience and/or trade experience and who can complete minor repairs e.g. plumbing, redecorating, repairs. About the school The school is a medium-sized primary school with approximately 300 pupils and takes in pupils from Nursery Aged 3 up to Year 6. Contracted hours The contracted hours will be 22.5 - which means the core hours for the role will be over 3 days a week (52 weeks a year, with either 5 weeks holiday pro rata or 6 weeks for more than 5 years continuous). The Headteacher is committed to flexible working where possible and for the suitable applicant these hours and role-specific tasks may be worked flexibly where school need allows. Hours can be discussed at interview and/or on offer of the post. Main responsibilities

  • Keyholder and opening the school on 3 days a week
  • Checking the school site daily (over contracted hours) and keeping a maintenance log for the premises, furniture, fixtures and fittings, with priority tasks (e.g. repairs) completed
  • Regularly test fire alarms and be familiar with the evacuation procedure for the premises and carry out evacuation drills as required.
  • Ensure stringent health and safety provision and adherence to the Code of Safe Working Practice (COSWP) for Caretaking and Premises Staff.
  • Responsible for the completion of risk assessments linked to security and premises use
  • Participate in and prepare for annual Health and Safety audit alongside the Headteacher
  • Aim to preserve energy and effectively manage waste
  • Manage a preventative planned maintenance programme including routine inspections of the designated building, fixtures, fittings, premises and grounds to assess for minor work or repairs to be carried out to maintain safe and satisfactory conditions.
  • Undertake minor/simple repairs as required e.g. minor plumbing, changing light bulbs, redecorating and fixing etc.
  • Liaise with external contractors and monitor their work ensuring it is carried out punctually and to the required standard.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the premises, liaising with the cleaning team. This includes ensuring there are checklists in place for cleaning and holiday cleans take place.
  • Responsible for maintaining records, information and data, producing analysis and reports as required.
