Billingham based (Home of McCoy's, Wheat Crunchies, pombear and more)

Permanent Role


The Role

That factory is situated on a 28 acre site with a workforce of 750, making 29,000 ton of product each year, equating to over a billion packs.

Whilst predominantly a branded business we do make products for leading Retail customers.

As the Technical Manager for our flagship Teesside factory, you will work closely with the Site Plant Manager & Functional Heads to ensure all aspects of technical standards and policy are understood, communicated and implemented.

You will be a member of the Teesside Leadership Team (TLT) and part of your role is to deliver the Quality Pillar requirements for the site, as part of our standardised way of working (Intersnack Work Systems).

Teesside is already our largest and most complex UK factory and currently undergoing a significant multi-million pound investment to increase capacity and to bring new products to site.

This is a large and complex role for someone who has experience working in a fast moving, consumer focus business.


As the Site Technical Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:

Being a key contributor to the strategy, development and growth agendas for the site

Be a key and active member of the site leadership team contributing to the wider business goals outside of your functional field.

Responsibility for Site Senior Management understanding & implementation of all Technical Policies & Standards

Through a culture of servant leadership and coaching

  • Acting as the guardian of site quality & food safety standards
  • Constantly challenge our internal and external audit readiness and standards
  • Fostering and developing a strong culture of food safety at the site
  • Support the site on its zero-loss journey
  • Proactive risk management & mitigation for all 'change’ activities including material, process, product & people that might impact quality, food safety and waste.

  • Food or science degree
  • Minimum 5-6 yrs in a Technical Manager role
  • Demonstrable experience in a technical role within the food/FMCG Industry in a large or multi-site capacity.
  • Proven track record in a technical management role
  • Cross functional experience working in other business areas or industries
  • Experience managing multiple projects and issues at the same time
  • Ability to work with and influence manufacturing teams and foster a one team mentality.
  • Must be happy working cross functionally and in a non-hierarchical environment
  • Proven people and team development track record through coaching, team and cross functional working
  • An experienced people manager and influencer - Coaching and developing your own and other teams should be how you get things done.
  • A strong process technical bias with the ability to route cause and fix forever mentality.
  • Hands-on leadership role, responsible for product quality and food safety standards. The site is growing and will expand significantly, giving you an opportunity to grow and develop.
