The Streetpride Service is Coventry City Council's Street Cleansing and Grounds Maintenance Service. It is a responsible and statutory duty to keep the City Clean, Green and attractive for all.

Keeping the City clean and green is a huge challenge and not one we can do on our own. The service is delivered by a flexible locally committed workforce who work well with the different residents, communities and partners ensuring a One Coventry approach by enabling people to do more for themselves.

The service operates out of 3 strategically based sites Citywide and provides a cleansing service 7 days per week for 52 weeks of the year.

We currently clean 10000 miles of road network each year and empty over 3000 street litter bins each week.

The service is also responsible for delivering the Grounds Maintenance works across all our Parks and Open Spaces including our 5 Green Flag Parks and cuts approximately 6 million square metres of grass every 20 working days. That is the equivalent of cutting one thousand football pitches.

  • What is the job role?

    You will be working as part of a team, you will support the maintenance and improvement of streets, neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces by undertaking a range of street cleansing and grounds maintenance activities and ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the appropriate Safe Systems of Work.

    These are key roles within our Streetpride Service and you will provide support to the community and public to improve the way our City looks and feels by working with team members and partners to create a greater feeling of security and confidence among residents, and to assist in maintaining a clean and safer community and signpost accordingly.

    The duties of these roles will involve:
  • Operation of mechanical road sweeper citywide

  • sweeping streets, emptying bins

  • litter-picking grassed areas

  • removal of dead animals and undesirable waste e.g. dog fouling

  • maintaining the grounds of highway verges and parks and public open spaces

  • driving vehicles and using power tools such as strimmers, hedge cutters, and other grass-cutting machines.

    enthusiastic, motivated and is experienced in working outdoors in all weathers.

  • Possesses good literary and interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with members of the public on a daily basis as well as working closely with colleagues in our Enforcement team.

  • Experience in leading a team and working efficiently and effectively with minimum supervision

  • Has the ability to transfer skills to other colleagues through informal training

  • Suitable ICT skills to operate hand held devices to record various information

  • Ability to walk, bend, kneel and stand for long periods of time and perform heavy lifting of items onto and off vehicles

  • Has a positive attitude to a physically demanding role

  • Holds a CPC license

  • Has a full clean driving licence that allows them to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes., Disability Confident
