Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? If so, we invite you to join our vibrant team at Wiltshire College & University Centre as a Skills for Life Coach at our Salisbury campus.

As a Skills for Life Coach, you'll play a crucial role in our community, supporting students with SpLD, SLD, and PMLD to build essential skills and knowledge. Your work will empower them towards greater independence and integration within the wider community.

Working closely with our Skills for Life Lead Practitioner, you will deliver personalised support to designated students, facilitating their access to educational resources, college amenities, and local environments. Your primary objective is to equip them for life beyond education, fostering self-determination and unlocking their full personal potential.

Skills for Life Coach - Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive relationships with students to help them achieve their goals.


  • Work with the Skills for Life Lead Practitioner to create personalised skills development plans.


  • Provide tailored student support, including:


  • - Participating in annual reviews.

    - Supporting transition programs for new and current students.

    - Assisting students in adapting to college routines and environments.

  • Mentor students on health and wellbeing and connect them with college services.


  • Help students develop confidence and overcome challenges through additional support and interventions.


  • Supervise individual or small group interventions aimed at building resilience and independence.


  • Maintain records for individual students.


  • Assist with and report issues related to specialist equipment and assistive software.

    Demonstrate a genuine enthusiasm and commitment to supporting SEND.

  • Possess a creative mindset and the ability to adapt swiftly to meet diverse student needs.

  • Exhibit a calm, friendly demeanour that promotes approachability.

  • Excel in personalised, one-on-one interactions with students.

  • Thrive on understanding and nurturing the aspirations of each student.


  • To excel in this role, you will hold qualifications in English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE C/4) or above and hold or be willing to work towards a relevant Level 3 qualification.
