In the Electricity Transmission Responsible Business team, our focus is on delivering social value and leaving a positive legacy within our communities. We drive social sustainability by setting strategic direction, implementing change and delivering programmes. We partner across the organisation, sharing good practice and driving collaboration, while providing transparency on performance to ensure we deliver on our commitments.

Our Social Value Lead will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Social Value Strategy for NGET, integrating social value principles into business operations, projects, and partnerships. They will drive consistency and best practice in social value activities across our field, project and office-based operations - and across our supply chain - to directly benefit our communities and our workforce. They will create transparency, build trust and enhance corporate reputation through development and application of a robust measurement and reporting framework.

What you'll be doing

Strategic focus on Social Value

  • Working within our Responsible Business framework, develop a targeted social value strategy and embed across the business to ensure that all departments understand and contribute to our sustainability objectives to foster a company-wide commitment to social value.

  • Ensure that the company's social value activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices, while monitoring industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging best practices, adapting the business' approach as necessary.


  • Stakeholder engagement

  • Collaborate with colleagues supporting procurement and delivery across the organisation, sharing guidance and best practice to help embed social value considerations in decision-making and supply chain activity.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, acting as the main point of contact for social value queries and representing the company at external events and forums


  • Effective measurement and reporting

  • Develop and promote tools, guidelines, and best practices to help teams incorporate social value into their projects and operations.

  • Enhance measurement, monitoring, and reporting on social value across the business

    Significant experience in a similar role within a utilities business or a related sector, including:

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing social value strategies and initiatives, internally and in the context of procurement and supply chain management

  • Experience in social value performance management and Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) reporting

  • Evidence of successfully working with and influencing internal stakeholders, including at senior levels, in a large complex organisation, and in external stakeholder engagement and collaboration

  • Passionate about social value and sustainability; pro-active self-starter with the drive to make an impact.

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.

  • Highly articulate and persuasive communicator; a proactive influencer.

    A competitive starting salary of £52,000 - £75,000 PA dependant on experience
