Full Job Description

We put children, young people and their families at the heart of everything we do. Our Children Looked After team work hard to enhance outcomes for CLA and care leavers through the delivery of a reshaped service, which incorporates the views of young people themselves. We are actively seeking passionate Children's Social Workers to become integral members of our growing and dedicated CLA teams. As a Children's Social Worker at Luton, you'll join a supportive learning culture, be able to influence change, challenge others and share your expertise. Embark on a fulfilling journey in our Corporate Parenting service by collaborating with children, young people, families, and agencies to provide support and protection. You'll be conducting clear, accurate assessments, coordinating multi-agency approaches, and building positive relationships. Aim for workforce stability and permanency through continuous professional development. Our Career Development Framework supports progression from a Newly Qualified Social Worker to Senior Practitioner, guiding you toward future career goals.

To join, you'll need a Dip SW, CQSW or recognised equivalent qualification, along with substantial experience in health or social care. You will also need to be registered with Social Work England. You'll have a great understanding of the Children Act 1989 and other key legislation. Importantly, you'll also know how to communicate calmly and effectively with a range of people. This'll help you to manage a range of situations confidently.

Our ambitious Luton 2040 Vision - that no-one in Luton will have to live in poverty - is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that our people are remarkable, talented, committed and passionate about serving our residents. The people of Luton depend heavily on this council - and that means our workforce! Are you ready to realise the remarkable and help us deliver our vision?

We offer a range of excellent staff benefits which include:

  • From 25 to 32 days' annual leave: linked to length of service and grade
  • Buying annual leave scheme: buy up to 20 days additional annual leave
  • Career Pathways: step up in your career or move into a specialist area
  • Pension scheme: with generous employer contributions of up to 20.2 per cent (at July 2023) and 3x salary death in service grant
  • Generous relocation package: up to £8,000 (subject to eligibility)
  • Employee Assistance Programme: a free, 24/7 confidential counselling and wellbeing support service available to all employees, their partner or spouse and dependent children over 16 still living at home

  • Training and support: unlimited access to development courses, mentoring and support and clear career pathways
  • Staff offers: includes discounts on your MOT, gym and fitness, restaurants and salons
  • Arriva Travel Club: great value savings on local bus travel
